Well according to the calendar my previous ct gave me, today is the last day of regular classes for the 5 & 6th graders. Sooo, I finished up lesson 8 period 4 and we played Jeopardy. I gave out choco pies for prizes.

I saw farewell & goodbye since I won't be returning the next semester. The students tell me we have class on Monday -_-

I need another game/activity for these 2 classes. I don't want to do worksheets..since they are pretty burnt out themselves. I need a game or fun activity for 30 mins. I'm giong to take them out for ice cream the last 10.

What about doing a scavenger hunt? Make the kids find the ice cream themselves. Have them actually go around the school and do things (either helpful or silly). I've done that once at a summer camp with 6th graders and it went over surprisingly well. (It was one of those OOPS we forgot to tell you, you have a class in 20 minutes, and of course there is no curriculum or plan for said class.)

You could also play an online scrabble-like game that is very well suited for elementary kids. It's called Tommy and the Magical Words. You have to build "bridges" of words, and longer words get more points. Divide the kids into three groups or so, have each group take a turn while the other groups brainstorm. I've got wild feedback from teachers -- I just loaded up a nice Olympic version. Click Resources - Share - ppt games. Loads of others, Price is Right ToysRUs with whiteboards is a good bet also...

Word games are just a really big waste of time for language learning.....

I meant to have a scavenger hunt that leads everyone to wherever the ice cream is safely frozen. I didn't mean set the ice cream out in the sun and have everyone wander around for 20 minutes trying to find it.

I have to respectfully disagree about word games being a waste of time. I have a bunch of really low-level elementary school kids, and they love to play Bookworm Adventure (you can get it at the Pop Cap site). Their spelling abilities have gone up, they know more vocabulary, they use more vocabulary, and it helps them to be more enthusiactic about Engish class. Wrod games shouldn't be all you do, but they are not a waste of time, or at least I haven't found that to be the case.
