Just accepted a teaching job in Bucheon and was curious what it is like living there. Are there many good outdoor activities there? Is there some decent nightlife and where? And finally hows the standard of living there? Thanks for any help and any other info that might be helpful.

A few friends and I just accepted positions there as well. When are you going?

Bucheon is better than it was a few years ago.

It's a relatively new city, built in 1995. A lot of wealthy people living there, so you will probably be teaching a lot of well off kids. Which can be good and bad.

The city is solid concrete. But it's interesting. When I left there they had begun construction on a water park complex. I recently went by there a few months ago and saw it, completed, amazing what they have done.

You should be really careful out there when you cross the street, unfortunately, there are a lot of aggressive people on the streets, more aggressive than in Seoul, so watch out for that.

There are a few mountains nearby, so that kind of counts for outdoor activities. You will also have no problem finding a gym, as there are many of those scattered about.

By city hall (Bucheon Si Chun) is where I used to live. Right near city hall and the Hyundai Dept. Store. They shut the streets down on Sundays near there and people can rent bicycles and such. It's interesting.

What I didn't like about it was that the people were so aggressive on the roads, honking their horns at you from 50 meters away, clearly they were to stop at a red light but f it, honk your horn, don't slow down and speed up through the red light. I saw so many car accidents from the window of my school.

Personally I need to have more nature around me. You won't find much of that in Bucheon, but the people can make up for that, except for when they are driving of course. You have been warned.
