I have what seems like an overpriced 765,000 won flight quote with 205,000 in tax tacked on for a total of 970,000 won for a RT to Bali in August. Does this sound right? Think it's a good quote? It took 6 days to get this quote after my inquiry and it's good for 14 days from today.
That's tax is a whopping 21%! What's the deal? Seems like I didn't pay this tax when I bought a ticket last December out of Korea. I paid 1,050,000 won to fly to Bangkok and then from Bangkok to LA.
At least income taxes are not this high in Korea. |

i got a flight to bali for 405,000+200,000 tax, fuel charge, service. doesn't seem too bad when compared with spliff's flight to thailand, but ridiculous comnpared to sojourner's! i've found flights for a bit cheaper since purchase on www.onlinetour.co.kr, among others. if it's difficult for you to navigate korean sites, get someone to help you. it'll pay off. |

sojourner, i just did a quick scan of flights to bali in august with www.onlinetour.co.kr. you can do a flight with stopover in hong kong with cathay pacific for roughly 495,000 prior to tax. even with the additional fuel/tax/surcharges/whatever, that should put you under the exorbinant pre-tax quote you recieved. i didn't login to check the specific costs of add-ons or availability. i suggest you do your best to explore this avenue. |

Spliff, where did you get that ticket?
I'm trying to use the http://air.onlinetour.co.kr/sale_ticket/saleReservationForm.asp , but it doesn't recognize Bali or Denpasar or Indonesia like it does everywhere else? Korea sites seem to be crap quality due to being incomplete.
Translating into hangul doesn't work either. |

I think tax depend of company and airport, JAL for example has a huge tax. |

click on the destination box (도착도시) and then type 발리. it will direct you to an option with both 발리 and "valli" listed. click on it. after that you can enter your dates and check out flight options. to confirm prices, etc., you'll need to register. the final prices can't be accessed until without registering. the rest is up to you. good luck! |

Cool, thanks. I got a quote for 409,000 and that includes an interesting 14 hour stop over in Bangkok to hit Khao Sarn road for a night. I got a Korean helping me now who will assist me in purchasing the ticket. Thanks for all the support guys. |

www.onlinetour.co.kr That's on Thai Airways to add.
It doesn't say how much taxes are, but I assume about 250,000. It appears this is a luxory tax in Korea. The luxory to have the jetset experience. Yes, Korea still considers this an affluent experience like we would had 40 years ago rather than transportation. And it is still a fine experience on Asian airlines like Thai Airways rather than just being basic transporation. How about video entertainment systems in every economy class seat with fine babes serving up a free shot of $100 XO cognac and gourmet meals? Now we're talking about a real experience at good prices. Let's go! |

How long ago was that?
I remember back in '02 and '04 they had $350 flights to Europe RT from the states! I flew from St. Louis to San Francisco RT back in '04 for only $200! That's 4000 miles for a cool $200 bucks. Gas was still cheap then. |

in 2004 i flew roundtrip, non-peak of course, for 310,000. it was with thai sky, a seriously shady carrier that went under soon after. my wife got a roundtrip flight to come meet me in thailand last april for 330,000 with east china air. 1 month ticket too. i headed down two weeks before her, as she was finishing work. i wasn't as lucky because i needed flights for a longer period of time. you never know what you're gonna find.
i got a roundtrip flight from boston to london for a 4-day weekend for $89 in december 2001! |

And yet only 3 months after 9/11. Maybe that factored into it just a bit. |
