|
|
My school and I broke our contract at the 8 month point and during that time I never saw any utility bills. I assumed that they were just paying these for me and I wouldn't have to worry about it. But now that the contract is over, it is sounding like they are going to add up the utility bills from the 8 months and charge me for it. This just wasn't something I was expecting, so I am curious if this is reasonable in everyone else's opinion.
Does this situation sound acceptable? |

Regardless of how long they held onto the bills, why would you think you are not responsible fro your own utilities? |

What does it say in your contract? If it doesn't specifically say that the employer is responsible for payment of all utilities I think you are on the hook. You rolled the dice and lost. Pay your bills and move on. |

before you pay them or have them deduct money from your final pay, ask to be given copies of each and every one so they don't overcharge you |

I had the same problem last year in a hagwon, but I didn't let it go 8 months. I inquired everyday about these sorts of issues, but still had a very difficult time as it was intended and planned for me to have difficulty. Needless to say, I beat em' and won without resorting to external broke dick government sanctions due to my persistence, determination, intellect, and threat to put an end to their hoggywan by putting in a bad word in the English teacher world and calling parents. Your utilities should be cut off when 3 months behind; not 8 months and you should be asking these sorts of question when you notice something is not right or just have a gut feeling that it's not right. This is standard in Korea to my understanding.
If you had lights, camera, and action for 8 months without paying, it sounds like they are being paid, but a fast one is being pulled on you to take advantage of you and degrade you as to make you lose face. That is to make a complete failure out of you so they don't have to pay you at the end. It's high time you understand your business matters, question the director why things are going wrong, ask how you can do better and make it right, and then take care of your responsibilities if you can. Then tell her you expect nothing less than things to be correct and make it clear you are not here to be intentionally confused. If she takes offense, then ask if you should stay any longer. If not, then you will put in a bad word and seek further unfavorable actions.
Oh, these tactics they pull in hagwons. When is the government ever going to clamp down on em'? When are foreigners going to quit trusting hagwon directors? When is corruption going to end?
When these schools are regulated and are closely monitored and inspect to a set of standards administered by the Ministry of Education. |

Your assuming the government is as straight as an arrow. What happens if they clamp down and have oversight over hagwons? Mr. Moneybags hagwon owner will just give the people in charge a handsome gift to look the other way. |
