What is the verdict on the validity of online crc's? The WA state patrol has a website that gives out crc's online. Will this suffice? |

As of July 17th, they are no longer accepted.
From what I've read, the Washington State Patrol allows one to REQUEST a background check online, which will then be printed, signed, notarized, and mailed to the requester. This should be fine; checks printed from websites or e-mails are no longer allowed, however, even if they come from a government authority. |

Where does the July 17 date come from? What good is technology if you can't use it?
Wario (my son) did his online in June, very simple. He started teaching July 9th though. He printed it out at home, took it to be notarized, the notary signed it and put a seal on it. Then it was mailed to the PA Secretary of State (along with a color, notarized copy of his degee, and self-adressed return envelope) for the apostillate business.
In all, it took a week because of the mailing process. The online check came back in mere moments. |

The July 17th date comes from Immigration. That's the date they changed their regulations to disallow online background checks:
Quote: |
※ Immigration office will not recognize the criminal records issued by online website or E-mail notarized by consulate's office in Korea as a valid criminal records. |
http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt?categoryId=2&parentId=382&catSeq=385&showMenuId=374&visaId=E2
Immigration also informed the U.S. Embassy that they would no longer accept online checks, and the embassy posted that information on their website:
Quote: |
Korean Immigration informed the Embassy on July 17, 2008, that they will no longer accept criminal records checks provided by an on-line service as some states and private companies are able to do. Korean Immigration will only accept an FBI criminal records check or a local police letter from your city or state of residence. |

Thanks, UT. More Bizarro World stuff from the people who want to go global, eh? Just kill some more trees while they're at it.
Actually, I was a bit concerned about the online printout. Any good web artist could rig one of those up in just about no time.
And I do understand the concern about hiring those working with children. |

Will this be accepted by the Korean Immigration:
I recently did my criminal background check online from my state patrol website and printed the results.
And I took this print out to the state patrol office to get it notarized. And they basically wrote a notarized letter based on my print out (instead of directly notarizing the printout itself).
Then I took both the notarized letter and my online print out to the secretary of state to get it apostilled.
Will the apostilled/notarized letter of my criminal background check satisfy the Korean Immigration??
i hope so... i drove all the way to the capital of my state (2hrs away from my house + traffic) to have all this done. |

Relax, you'll be fine.
What you have is a clearance letter, signed by a police official, and notarized to certify the signer's bona fides. The printed database report is merely a supporting document. The notarized letter was further apostilled by the secretary of state. Therefore, you've met all the requirements of Korean Immigration. You're good to go. |

What exactly does an 'online check' mean?
(I just got my background check faxed to me this week from a private research company. The company info was provided by the Illinios state police. It cost 50 bucks. I was going to get it notarized at the embassy. Too busy with work. )
I gotta call that Mr. Immigration officer tomorrow. |
