Husband Neglecting Family Feud Responsible for Divorce
By Kim Rahn, Korea Times (July 28, 2008)
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2008/07/117_28329.html
Quote:
In August 2005, the man, 23-years-old at the time, learned just ahead of being discharged from military service that his girlfriend was pregnant.

They decided to get married, and the man's parents proposed the couple live together with them. The girl said yes to the would-be-parents-in-law, but urged the boyfriend to get a separate home, saying she did not want to live with his parents. Learning of this and being angry about it, the man's parents did not attend their wedding and said they would sever the parents-son relationship.

After the marriage, however, the girl tried to mend the feud. She asked her husband to arrange meetings with his parents, but he did not, saying they'd better wait until the parents' anger subsided. The wife tried to visit the parents-in-law during holidays, but they avoided meeting her. She accused her husband of not being active in solving the discord, and he reacted by attacking her. He finally left home.

The wife filed a divorce suit, demanding the husband pay 30 million won ($29,800) in alimony and 300,000 won per month for childcare costs. The husband also filed a suit, claiming the wife caused the discord.

The court ruled in favor of the wife granting her the divorce and ordering the husband to pay 10 million won in alimony and 300,000 won a month in childcare costs until the child comes of age

Eh I've heard from more than one person that when the man goes away for his military service the woman ain't always that faithful. I'd be getting a paternity test for sure.

But yeah, he's a *beep* for the most part so good on her for getting what is owed =)

True, some military wives are unfaithful to their husbands , but there are many wives who are. Many military wives are celibate until their husbands come back. It is easy to be celibate and/or faithful to a man who you truly love. If you keep him in your heart and in your thoughts, no other man would be able to tempt you. True love is very powerful!

Someone has been watching "The Notebook" DVD once too many.

Wow! This story is an encouragement to many single mothers. Alimony and child support.Smile Many single mothers will enjoy reading this article. Many single mothers have to go through the courts and pay thousands of dollars to lawyers just to get child support. Thank you for this story.

There are free services to help MANY SINGLE MOTHERS legally in south korea for divorce and child support proceedings. The only catch is that many single mother MUST file for some form of either divorce or legal seperation proceedings before child support is actually issued.

In the US you can stop an American man from travelling if he is not paying child support, but you have to prove it somehow. If you proved it before, then you can do it. I am not sure you can make a guy who lives overseas submit to such a test. I think the US Embassy should have such services and that a man should be forced to submit to such a test if it can be ascertained he is abroad. At least, someone must be made to appear in court somehow if they are accused of neglecting a child. I have a friend who has a child and the father doesn't recognize the child as his own. Her daughter can't be an American citizen as a result, though her father is. She's Canadian only. He is abroad, so she can't really prove he is the father and she would have to be abroad to do so. However, there are complications with traveling abroad with your child if the father hasn't given written permission to do so.

"However, there are complications with traveling abroad with your child if the father hasn't given written permission to do so."

Which brings into question: How long has it been since the child have been in Korea with you and if the father has not paid child support since last year, is he still visiting the child?
