Hi,
I'm considering getting a small dog or cat since I'm going to be living in Korea a bit longer than I expected. I currently live in Daegu, and was wondering if anyone (who lived in Daegu) had an animal that needed a good home.
I don't have any pets yet, so the dog or cat would have the place entirely to himself. I work from 1-10, so I would prefer an animal that doesn't suffer from separation anxiety.
PM me!

I'm looking to adopt a doggie.

Preferrably:

1-5 years old
Small to medium (15-50lbs)
Good with young kids and other dogs
OK being left alone for 7-9 hours a day
Housebroken

Poor Sam was found in Kangnam left on the streets all alone. We were able to foster him for the past 4 years, but unfortunately we are not able to take him with us to New Zealand. He is looking for a nice home to move to here in Korea. He has been well looked after, vaccinated, neutered, and micro-chipped. He is fine with other dogs or alone for long periods of time. He can lay on your lap or on a cozy blanket. He barely ever makes a sound.

More about Sam!

Breed: Maltese
Color: White
Age: 4 - 6
Height: 12 in or 36cm: floor to center back
Eyes: Brown
Paws: 4
Ears: 2
Teeth: Clean
Tail: Wagging

He's waiting for the right person to give him a new home.

One year old orange tabby cat to a good home only. She's a nice animal who has had her shots and is fixed. She's very playful, humorous, and would make a good companion here in Korea. She lives in Suwon now.
Cat experience and personal responsibility required. Serious inquiries only please.

I'm going to be moving to Daegu in early October, and I am really looking forward to adopting a pet. I'd prefer to find one from a shelter and I was wondering if anyone here knew of a good one that may have English speakers as my Korean is nil.

I'd also be willing to adopt an animal from an expat who is leaving the country.

PM me with any advice please!

Thanks
Jill

If anyone is interested in adopting an adorable friendly kitten I found this weekend on the street, please message me!

I'm no expert but (I think it's a she) looks to be about 2 months old and is so clean and friendly. She's got striped markings, mainly black and gray with a bit of orange color around the nose and white paws and chin. I'm currently looking for shelters to take it to (anyone know of any in pusan? The one I've found online isn't picking up their phone) but a good home for this gorgeous kitten would be amazing.

Please message if so!!

I have pictures if you message me with your email, now that Dave's isn't letting people upload photos.

I thought I'd remind folks of this before you adopt.

We saved a beautiful dog and I'm not sorry we did, however...

Our weekends are at home because there is no place for her to stay if we want to go away. There are no kennels. If the dog is house trained, and doesn't go to the toilet inside it'll have a problem if you leave it att he vet since they don't take them out.

It's costing in EXCESS of W3 million to send her home.

Unless you're a home body and don't plan on travelling around on weekends or holidays, and unless you're ok with huge expenditure to take them home, I would not recommend adopting. It's not easy or fair to just find them a new home when you leave.
Rather get a fish.

It is great that you remind people of the commitment they must make to an animal but that does sound extreme.

I rescued three dogs in Korea and I never really had any issues. True we were lucky we formed a doggie-sitting ring with our friends but it only cost me $270.00 per dog to fly it back to Canada.

Are you sending it as manifest cargo? I could understand that price if the dog is upwards of 30 kg but for a small dog you can send for as little as $530.00 including the crate. You should try Petairline, make sure you tell them you rescued the dog-they may give you a discount.

The new airlines laws are that dogs can't go in the cabin, and have to go manifest cargo. To Canada/US, I'm not sure what that will cost, but to South Africa, Australia or New Zealand you have to use an animal transport company. No airline accepts direct bookings for pets.

She is about 10kg and her crate will be 80x50x50cm.(she's slightly bigger than a spaniel)
It involves:

Manifest cargo airfare(Pet airline and Neologitech have quoted W1.9million)

Import permit( apply 8 weeks before you want to go)

Courier a blood sample to the state vet in the importing coutry. (Korea doesn't have an approved facility to do the required tests)( I've been quoted W700,000 to COURIER the blood alone, not including the cost of the tests)

4 page health certificate( not sure of cost yet)

All vaccinations(cost W300,000-W500,000 in Daejoen), microchipping(W150,000), and spayed(W300,000)

15 days quarantine on arrival, blood tests are done AGAIN before they're released.

In the case of South Africa, the requirements to be done there have been quoted at R7000($1000)

Not including vaccinations etc, it's still going to be more than W 3million.

I'm definatley not saying that people shouldn't rescue dogs...

I'm just saying that you need to be aware of the costs involved first. We were thinking of leaving last year, and in 5 months the airfare quote has increased by W600,000.

If you're not in a major city, it's VERY difficult to go anywhere overnight. Foreigner communities/people willing to petsit are basically none existant. There isn't even in a vet in our town, the nearest one is 1 hour away.

Requirements for taking animals into Canada/US are basically non-existant, but SA, Aus, NZ are VERY strict.
If you send the pet without completing the necessary requirements, the pet is destroyed by the quarantine station master at the airport.

I need to find a new home for my sweet cat. She is neutered and in good health. I can provide many cat supplies for her including automatic feeder and water dispenser.

I don't know how to insert pictures here but can provide some.

Thanks.

We have a great dog to give away. We found him (current name Frankie) on the street near our house. We picked him up and took him to our local vet and had him showered and shaved - he has already been neutered and clearly had a previous owner. The vet said he was 1-2 years old and is in pretty good shape. He adores people and does that trick where he shakes your hand. He's house trained and a lot of fun. Unfortunately we already have two dogs and thats enough for us. We are looking for someone with time or a couple looking for a challenge to give him a loving home.
