There was a thread about this 2 weeks ago in off-topics, and on Marmot's Hole.

Not worth 8,000 won, even with English subtitles.

the action's good, the setting is cool/interesting and the story is predictable... i may be reading into this way too much, but i found that the movie was pro-korean, and anti- japanese, chinese and foreigner... the only white guy in the movie has a hyper idiotic surprise look on his face right before he is speared (and people in the audience laughed at this bit)... i dunno, maybe that's why this movie is so popular here in kland?

many koreans have said this movie is a lot of fun!
very cool, I guess its designed for korean humor so to us its probably stupid but to koreans they love it.. guess you need to be korean to laugh at it.. its like those stupid game shows and variety shows on all the channels I hate that stuff, but koreans love it so much...

different strokes I guess..

would koreans find Harold and kumar or American pie funny?

I liked it. It wasn't great but it was better than the new Indy Jones flick with the nuked fridge, as well as the other Hollywood films I've seen in Seoul.

High marks for cinematography. Light hearted, and the actor who plays the "Weird" guy is good. It wasn't xenophobic, maybe ponderously patriotic at times, and (SPOILER ALERT) there is a silly scene where the "good" guy rides straight in on horseback with a rifle and slays what seems like half a battalion of motorized Japanese troops.

As far as learning xenophobia from the best, know that "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," the source material for this flick, is Italian, not American. But yeah, twenty years ago a trailer played up *gasp* Arab terrorists on an airplane.

No surprise there. Didn't you catch the Japanese disaster movie Dokdo love marathon on XTM last week? Endless scenes of Japanese cities being destroyed with an oversized Dokdo and Korean flag in the upper left corner?

A couple of years ago they aired The Towering Inferno on September 11th.
