Yesterday was my third anniversary in the Republic of Korea, and I'm happy to say that I will no longer teach elementary school-aged children ever again.

My first job was kindergarten, and not only did I hate it, but I was so bad at it that despite my best efforts that I got fired after six months.

Next job was at an elementary school, and it was a big improvement. I taught at a few elementary schools for a over two years and quite enjoyed it.
Still, I taught part time at a high school and liked that a lot more- they definitely weren't adults, but I liked their relative maturity, the lack of disciplinary problems, and the fact that they were more attentive. I decided that if teaching almost adults was much better than kids, adults would be the best level for me. And I was right.

I've been teaching adults for almost a year now and have just finished my part time elementary school job. I've decided that I will no longer teach that level, and I'm very happy about it.

I've always felt that I'm more of a dog person than a kid person, and teaching children made me realize how true it is.

Congratulations on your milestone and finding your niche, OP. You must be Koreanized?

Ha! When Wario was about that age, he once took a shopping cart around the store and came back with a box of Count Chocula and a bag of dog food. Laughing

Hint: Gotta keep 'em busy.

When people ask me if I want to have kids I reply 'I already have 450 of them'. I do actually like the vast majority of my students (even if they drive me crazy sometimes) but up to 50 hours a week at school surrounded by them is plenty for me.
