When you guys change jobs in Korea how do you usually go about it and does your behaviour change depending on whether you are E visa or F visa status?
If you decide you are going to change jobs at the end of your contract, do you find your nice new job weeks or months in advance, interview and sign contracts without a word to your current employer until the deed is long done?
Or does anyone actually brief their existing employer at a very early stage and go down the transparent path. I wouldn't have thought this was a good strategy if you worked at a hagwon. How about other places (public schools, universities etc)?
How did you go about changing your job? How far in advance did you get everything sorted? How did your existing boss take it? |

100%.... MONTHS in advance. Once the job is found and signed, then and only then do I tell my current school I won't be re-signing (within the notice period as per the contract). |

If you give your school the 2 months notice, extend your visa with a new school, before it expires, is it at all possible for the current school to be awkward, refuse to let you visit immigration to do the necessary paperwork, or do GEPIK schools just give the LOR, let you go to immi with the new school and get it all sorted out?!!!
I'm preparing my own mind for such a scenario.
If it's a public school I believe it should be easy. |

Yep...I told my new employer I needed the contract ASAP as I have a 30 day clause in my contract with my current school. I would never give notice until you have the new contract in hand, signed and stamped.
I was told the principal would treat me like a big pile of poo until I go, but I really only have 2 weeks of camp - half days left.
New job in Sept. I didn't leave because my school sucks though...just upgrading to more pay and vacation....
I would assume it depends on the situation...I have given them 6 months of my all, and proper notice...the principal has been his usual sour puss face, and not any different to date.
I was told no letter of recommendation, but I secured the new gig prior to needing one from them anyhow....
Just take all into consideration, proceed cautiously, and do NOT if possible at all, let your current school know where you will be moving onto.... |

For me it was different. I was looking to change jobs and all the jobs that were offering me a contract were asking when I could start. That all would depend on when I would give my notice to the current employer. It's not that hard to find a job here, so even if you don't have a specific job in mind, but have a few that you are considering, it's alright to give notice. I had to give 2 months notice at my job because they are a small hagwon and well, only after I knew the actual day that I would finish could I know when I could start the new job. |
