80% of Korean teachers should be fired for being completely useless with the English langauge (okay, I'm being nice. It's about 95%)

80% of Foreign English teachers should be fired for not caring and not putting much effort into their work.

Fair assessment?

Probably. I'd say that the number of FTs who would care if their work situations weren't so bad or ridiculous would be a bit higher than 20%.

The numbers may be about right in terms of professionalism, but you don't get fired just because you're unprofessional. You only get fired if you're so unprofessional that management hears about it, repeatedly, and, just as importantly, determines it's no longer profitable to keep you on. If they think it's unprofitable, they usually won't hesitate to fire you.

Then again, that's not quite right, either, because lots of managers are unprofessional, too.

try **incompetent** instead.

How many of the Foreign English Teachers have an Education degree, or Teaching / TESOL certificate with actual classroom experience? 20%????

Going by that rationale, what percentage of school/university/hagwon management would you say should be fired? I know my own amount of effort and care is directly proportional to that exhibited by management in the places I have worked.

Which comes first - the chicken or the egg?

No, you get fired for being sick, boring, ugly, making someone lose face, or being the victim of false accusations. If none of those things happen, it's pretty hard to get fired merely for being unprofessional.

And as I've asked a number of people before, just what kind of education degree, teaching certificate, or TESOL certificate would make one suitably qualified to teach here? (One that taught English teachers when to use upper- and lower-case letters, Id hope).

I beg to differ that 80% are useless and should be fired. While 80% may not have an education degree and TESOL, many are still good teachers. It's really impossible to gauge how many are bad teachers, but I know it's not a whopping 80%.

100% OF KOREAN MOTHERS SHOULD BE BANNED FROM HAVING ANY COMMENTARY ON WHAT HAPPENS EDUCATIONALLY IN THE CLASSROOM.

Yeah, I said it. If there's a chicken, or egg, I don't know, but Korean mothers possibly have the single most detrimental effect on their children's education.
