Can I use any printer with my laptop? The printer at work has run out of ink & apparently won't be able to be used 'til next semester.
I'm sick of the dramas & want to get my own printer for home - but I just have a lap top I bought in Korea. Can any printer be installed & used on it? |

As long as you have an open USB port you can pick one up just about anywhere. Yongsan or Technomart if you are close or any E-mart, Home-plus, Lotte-mart/department store, or your local computer shop.
Make sure that the one you choose is USB and NOT a "parallel port" printer.
Base prices start at about 60k for a basic printer up to around 120k for a printer/scanner/copier combo. Higher end printer combos can run up to 250k for inkjets and 500k for lasers.

Fantastic thanks. There's a little pc place on the way home where I'll buy one - just wasn't sure if laptops had specific requirements or something. I'm a bit of a laptop virgin!

OP - definitely go to Technomart - the one at Gyeonbeon Station on the green line
I bought an Epson Photo Printer there a few months ago for 50,000 won - and I still can't believe the quality for the price.
turns out this printer is sold all over asia and the base price is$50
it's SO easy to use - and yes, just plug it in your USB port, and you're set to go.
I bought some photo paper and printed up some travel photos and posted around my apt - but I had bought it originally for text printing - which it does just as well and extremely fast.

Do they still sell LPT1 printers???
OP, from my experiences of using Canon, Epson, Samsung, HP and Lexmark, Canon is the best IMO. Easy to use, easy to replace ink cartridges and easy to refill. You pay slightly more but printer prices have come down quite a lot.
Epson may sometimes print slightly higher quality photos, are cheaper than Canon with cheaper cartridges, replacing them however is crap and screws up the software used to monitor the ink usage. Trust me, you can't replace separate cartridges whenever you like because of the damn software and there's no way around it without contacting the Russian mafia for a hack driver (tis true). |

| If you're just going to print for work and need a lot of copies, I'd seriously consider getting either a laser or trying to get one of those deals where they set up ink bottles feeding directly to a custom printhead. All of the kindergartens where I work have one and it saves heaps for heavy users. |
