Hey all... so still new in town and not quite sure what things cost.
Paid 36,000 for galbi and two 500ml bottles of Hite. Was this a rip? |

Probably not. Some places are expensive and some are cheap. Some places are justifiably expensive, and others aren't. If you keep looking and asking people, you'll start finding places that are cheap and good.
For example: if you're in Seoul, one of my favorites is a place called "Well Being BuDaeJjigae" outside Noksapyeong station, next to the Turkish restaurant.
Go out exit three until you reach an underground crossing. When you come to the other side of the street, take a right and walk a few meters. It's on your left. |

If it was pork, probably.
If it was beef, probably not. |

It really depends on how much you ate and what type of meat it was. Galbi ranges from cheap to super expensive. The price you paid would actually be on the semi-cheap side while really good meat would easily cost twice that much for 2 people serving (anywhere from 200 - 300 grams). |

I once ate galbi ate a restaurant near Myeong Dong with a Korean friend and when the bill came it was almost $50. We looked at the menu a bit closer and it was no joke. So yeh, the price can fluctuate quite a bit. |

No. That's actually on the cheap side. Most times Galbi costs at least $30 per person, that's the kind of places my Korean coworkers go to. |

What kind of galbi was it?
I don't think I've ever paid more than W7,000 per serving of tway-ji-galbi. |

How many servings did you get?
A serving of decent galbi at a basic restaurant usually floats around 10-20,000 so if you got two servings at 15,000 plus 3,000 for a bottle of beer I'd say you did alright. |

More expensive places will give you a lot of banchan, chiae, and other things.
The cheaper places just give you one or 2 sides and lettuce.
Also, the cheap places you sit on a plastic stool in a glorified tent. Your options are generally only pork galbi or sanggyupsal. The expensive places will have many options as to the cut of meat, beef, and other things on the menu.
I like hte cheap places. Its so simple. A plastic stool, bottle of sofu, and a charcoal grill in the middle. |

Yessss! My favorite place just closed. Used to go once a week. The lady there loved my son and would make him his favorite side dishes and insist he had a glass of milk (free) before he got into the soda. We always had at least 6 different sides, yummy OLD kimchi for the stone, and the ladies hubby would bring a bottle of soju by, have a shot with me, and 'forget' to take the bottle with him. Often times in the winter, there would be sweet potatoes from the heater shared too. After being stuffed to the gills, our bill averaged 20,000 for the 3 of us. |

It definitely depends on the area, too. I was roped into having galbi with a friend in Itaewon once that was 30,000+ and it wasn't any better than hte 6,000 won galbi that I've had in my area. |
