No question about it.
Maybe this is down to me knowing more about English football and the players and thus it is a case of 'familiarity breeds contempt' but everytime I have seen Peru or a Peruvian playing sport (not often do you see Peru on the world stage) I cheer them on whoever they are playing.

I'm not a kyopo, but after demonstrating my vertuosity with chopsticks and ability to eat sam-gyap-sahl numerous times, not to mention my ability to one shot soju, I've been told I am 'almost Korean' and I take that as gospel (  ), way back in 2002 during the World Cup I was asked this very question. I said, "If Korea is playing any country in the world except the US, I'd cheer for Korea. If Korea is playing the US, I'd cheer for the US." They all agreed that was a fair answer. We then went downtown and got roaring drunk together watching the various games. (I did hide out at home during the US vs Korea game, but always regreted it. I'm 99.8% sure that it would not have been a problem with those students.)

Aren't you forgetting the World Cup the US won? Or don't you consider women human...or maybe not American? |

Then why not renounce your American citizenship, move back to Korea permanently, do your miltary service and fully become "what you are" and all that entails? |

why would I want to leave the US permanently? I love the US. Just because I would root for the Korean Team, I should leave the States?

Did I touch a nerve there Mr Kyopo? No one cares what team you root for, but when you consider the nation of your citizenship "just the place I was born" you do that nation a great disservice.
Of course you love America. Its kept you out of the Korean military and given you a secure financial existence. But if you consider yourself truly Korean, why half ass it. Embrace your Koreaness and come back. I will even show you where the militray recruitment office is. |

I've had two Korean students admit being born in the USA. They told me that they were Americans.
The first student could not speak English. He was 16.
The second student did not know July 4th was significant.
