My contract ends in November. My school has asked me to work off-the-books until late decmeber. This is convenient for them as it's when winter semester ends, and it's convenient for me as the extra cash would come in handy. Also, it's beats sitting on my arse for 3 1/2 weeks at home before xmas.
I know that, if I let immi know in advance, I can stay in Korea for upto 30 days after my E2 expires.
Is it worth the risk? Is it a stupid idea? Would I be better spending 3 weeks in Thailand before going home. Going home for xmas is a must btw. I've spent my last 4 bday/xmas/nyear in Asia. There won't be a fifth.

| As far as I'm a aware, the minimum visa extension is 6 months. I can't see them extending my visa for 6 months for the sake of three weeks. I'll ask anyway. |

No, you can extend your VISA from a day up to 1 year I believe. Tompattz can help you more in this area, listen to his advice. |

| That'd be perfect. Will I need any docs to extend it by such a short time period. I came here before CRCs were mandatory. I brought one in any case, but apparently they're only valid for six months. In other words, will I need to submit a CRC. Also, medicals weren't mandatory before I came here. Will I need one of those. It'd be a lot of aggro for the sake of 3 weeks. |

| From what I understand you will need to sign another contract and have everything else in order. (Medical check/CRC) Again wait for Tompattz to come on this site. |

The minimum extension is 1 (one) day. The cost is 30k won (for a working extension) and requires some paperwork. 3 weeks is certainly do-able.
1. Visa Extension Application
2. Passport and your Alien Registration Card
3. New contract
4. Sponsorship Certificate (from school)
5. A copy of Certificate of School / Business Registration (from school)
6. Processing Fee
7. New Criminal Record Certificate (IF you haven't submitted one already to immigration).
8. New Health Check Certificate (If you haven't already submitted one to immigration).

I've done 2 visa extensions - the first one was for a month
the second one was for 3 months
not a biggie at all.
the first one, as stated you need a new "contract" but this can be just a copy of the old one and an addendum page extending the contract to the new date, excluding anything other than salary (that is, no additional severance, etc.)
I'd make sure you get the ducks in order for your return air fare, if applicable, etc. first. that is, make sure they pay you all that at the end of the regular contract and then they can pay you an agreed upon wage for the extra time afterwards.
the second extension I had was when a visa was transferred and my contract had not ended yet so I just took that to immi, they looked at it and extended my visa; again not a biggie. |

As I said, neither of these were mandatory when I came here, so I haven't submitted them. The medical would be a piece of cake. And getting a CRC is easy. Apparently they accept the basic disclosure which I can get from Disclosure Scotland (on the jobs forum, someone had emailed immi and had this confrimed). However, getting it apostilled, notarized, etc. while in Korea is supposedly a major ball-ache.
One final question. If I get these things done, go home, and return to work for another employer, will I need to get them done again? If not, that would make it worth the hassle, as I'm 90% sure I'm coming back anyway. |

They only need to be done once - at your extension or at your new visa application.
Your embassy here should have the means to authenticate (swear an affidavit) so it really is not that big a deal (beyond the price).
