|
|
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get out of this. My desktop is stuck in this re-boot cycle, and keeps jumping to the black and white page that asks you if you want to go to safe mode by moving the cursor up to it, then reboots and does the same thing again. Problem is I can't get to the safe mode as my keyboard is frozen, but it will work on the bios page. Tried putting the OS disc in to boot from and it won't let me, tried unplugging, and no luck.
Anyone have any idea how to get out of this and what caused it? |

I'd try resetting the BIOS. You probably have to open your computer and move a jumper to a different position for a few seconds. Check online for jumper settings for your motherboard and see how to clear your CMOS. |

have you tried taking the battery out for a full reset? The battery is the small round thing on the mother board. leave itb out for 30 min and try again |

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried both of those and it didn't work. I could be that it's an old computer and the motherboard is just fried. |

you may have to take the hard drive out put it in an enclosure, get the data off and reformat
This is provided it is a complete windows failure and not a windows problem. |

Play around with tapping the f12 after power on. Try a USB keyboard. Unplug all cables and say a prayer over them. Monkey with everything you can. If all else fails hook the drive up to another computer and backup your data. Do that last bit anyway. |

Are you using a wireless keyboard? As ChopChaeJoe was mentioning, it might not hurt to try and switch the stuff around a bit. I was having a similar issue when using a wireless keyboard, and it was fine when I switched to a traditional/old keyboard and connected it to the ps/2 port.
Don't really know what causes it, but my computer is still working fine even though it's getting a bit old now.
It may not be the best for your computer, but you are able to get the safe-mode/etc selection screen by doing a hard reboot(pull cord if necessary)while booting up...you'll be prompted for selection when it starts back up. I recommend trying the old-style keyboard option first though.
I also assume that you tried to change the boot sequence to resolve the os disk-reading issue as you said you were able to get into the bios? |
