I got offered a position at YES Youngdo. They seem to spell everything out in black and white which is good but I still have my usual doubts. If you have any info on this place, please PM me since I need to make my decision fast! Thanks.

They offer the benefits of a stable, well-organized hagwon: accurate, timely pay, etc.
On the other hand, they pay as well as a large, well-established hagwon: standard ~2.0ish contracts with a lot more work than the average public school gig.
I was offered a position with Youngdo, and in the end, I opted out because the pay for the amount of hours was too low. They were offering 2.1 for 8 office hours, and 6 hours of teaching per day. With the public school I'm in now, I'm getting 2.0 for about 4-5 teaching hours a day.
If this is your first time teaching, and you have no other options, I don't think it'll be a horrific gig. But it won't be all that fantastic, either. I'd say a better alternative would be Avalon. They pay the same, for less teaching hours, and they seem to generate less horror stories than Youngdo. |

I recommend that you change the title to something like "Has anyone worked at or heard of Yes Youngdo?" You might get some better responses. |

Varies from chain to chain, I know people who have been screwed by them; all depends on the owner. Make sure you speak to current and past employees from the school before you sign. There is no other way to know whether the contract will be followed or not. |

Point taken...I want to speak to a foreign teacher but they sent me an email with the contract and offer before I could even request to and they're giving me 48 hours to make up my mind. I will have to act fast I guess and get those teachers on the phone. |

take your time! they're just trying to rush you into something so you don't have time to check with the email address they gave you or get advice about the contract. to me this is a common tactic when trying to sign new teachers.
you're about to move halfway around the world for this job for a year, take your time |

Yeah, I figured it's because I'm a newbie but geez, don't put the cart before the horse, right? The last time I took "too long" because I waited for a teacher's response, I lost the offer though. Maybe it was a good thing I did though... |

There are many threads on YES YoungDo here. Generally hated. LOTS of work for low pay. You do get paid, though, they "generally" won't cheat you while you still work there. Reimund had a good post.
I'd reject it if I were you. Sounds like they're purposely throwing the 48 hours in your face so you don't talk to anyone else. Any time someone demands you make a big decision in a short time, it's always to THEIR advantage, not yours. |

Well, based on all the negative feedback I got on Youngdo, I'm going to play it safe and decline the offer. Thanks for the tip about Avalon reimund. I submitted an application with them after I read that. I also am speaking to a recruiter representing SMOE and will have an interview coming up with CDI. All three seem like good ways to go based on what I've read on this board so thanks for all your help guys! |
