I was just wondering if it is standard operating procedure for someone to have to work on the same day they arrived into Korea. Also how did you manage after a long flight?

No, it isn't standard, but it has happened more than once. There are two things you can do: 1) arrive on the weekend and 2) have a lesson in your pocket ready to go just in case.

You mean "Okay, everyone is going to take a turn introducing themselves to the class and telling us something interesting that they did over the summer."

Combine the above with a few coffees and then go home and get some rest after classes end.

I started work the following day... that was hard enough.

It's hard, for newbies to Korea to say no, because you want to be nice. But they SHOULD let you sleep and get settled in.

Mt first hagwon made me teach 1 hour after my international and domestic flights. I'd been travelling for 2 straight days. The only thing that made it bearable was that the kids were just dying to see their new teacher.

Now, on reflection, I'd just say "No!" (and state headache, possible throwing up from flight food etc). That would set the right tone for any future employment changes/misunderstandings that will invariably arise).

Thanks. My flight from America will be arriving at 6am in the morning next monday and my recruiter told me they will be taking me straight to my school. How exhausting! I wanted to get to Korea a couple days ahead of time to kinda rest but my recruiter told me to arrive the morning of.
