Has anyone ever exceeded the weight on their carry-on baggage with no problems? I want to pack my Xbox in my carry-on bag but the weight exceeds the 7kg limitation by a couple kilograms. This is making me so mad because I don't want to check my Xbox for some grimy baggage handler to steal.

I thought they just scanned carry on, is there a weight measuring system in place which weighs the carry on as it is scanned? The main concern is size and shape, so it can fit.

How many bags are you bringing for carry on?

The website says 7kg. Dimension is a factor as well, but I'm not worried about that.

I'm bringing 1 carry-on bag, which I was going to put my laptop in, but now I'm going to carry my laptop separately and put my Xbox in the carry-on bag. I was also planning on bringing a small ukulele on the plane with me but now it looks like I'm going to have to check that in and pray it doesn't break on the way there. I have a cheap hardcase and I'm going to bubble wrap it.

I hate all these damn restrictions! I remember when I would fly places and not even worry about allowances and restrictions.

Thanks anyways people. I decided to put my ukulele in one of my luggages with tons of bubble wrap around it and in a hard case. Xbox 360 will come on the plane with me in a lighter carry-on bag. So much for the Wenger Patriot bag I bought for $80... Crying or Very sad

These silly regs should simply be dropped.

A guy who weighs 200 pounds more than I weigh, but whose bags are within the limits, can get on a plane with no problems or charges. I try to get on with a bag that's 5 pounds over, I get charged extra.

If they're going to charge extra for weight, they should charge according to passengers' BMI in addition to baggage weight. Heavier people would pay more, as it should be. It's this or drop the overweight charges altogether.

I think I'd agree with you, Tobias. It is a bit ridiculous.

I was once going on a flight and had some heavy books in my bag. The lady at the gate asked me to take my bag off and weigh it. It was of course overweight, and she insisted I take out the extra weight. I took out the two heavy books, put them under my arm and re-weighed the bag. Then she let me through. Once I was through, I put the books back in the bag. Wow, she sure saved the plane from being overly weighed down that day. But I think she knew how ridiculous it was and was just doing her job.

Or wear all your clothes on the plane. Five pairs of pants, ten shirts, ten pairs of socks....it'd get awfully warm on the flight, but your bags would be light! Or at least lighter.

i imagine they don't charge people for being overweight cause it could be seen as a form of discrimination and no airlines what someone to sue them for discrimination and get like hundreds of millions of dollars in there settlement. It would be bad business, besides how would you like them to charge people for each extra bmi over 20 you pay 20 bucks or would we start at 30 BMI. Besides all the big people would be so offended that they would either boycott the airlines all together, bad for business in a country with big people or again just sue them. I guess it would be good for the trains and buses though.

Anyway i was having the same issue with my PS3. I decided to take it as a carry on and i brought a cheap small carry on for $10 with enough room for a few days of clothes but i wasnt worried about weight cause i don't think they weight them but i will find out next week when i leave.

Agreed. It'd open a mighty nasty little box of troubles.

So. Do away with the extra weight charges and simply charge more for fares. Or maybe try another approach, as we've not even hit on the biggest dead weight of all--the fuel the planes carry. Half a 747's weight is fuel on takeoff. Some of that is left in the tank on landing as a safety reserve. But how much is 'enough'? Sounds like the airlines can plan fuel consumption/addition a bit better and still have a safety margin left in the tank on any flight.

Hmmm. Fat asses not getting busted for an extra charge. The plane lands with hundreds of gallons in the tanks. And they're gonna bust me for five pounds over on my rucksack?

Yes i guess better fuel consumption in planes would be ideal. i personally like the little safety net of fuel, cause i know i wouldn't want to be on the plane that didnt have the extra fuel and the plane actually needed it for some odd reason.
I have been luck on my last two international flights, since the planes were so empty i didnt get charged for extra weight and extra luggage (my carry on was too big) but now i fear it wont be so, so i'm going to be extra careful to weigh my luggage before hand. I don't understand why they sell baggage as carry that is too big to be a carry on, makes no sense.
