I have students who have issues with , as in 'warm', 'war', 'warp', etc...but they can't help but pronounce it as 'werm', 'wer', 'werp'. Anyone else have this issue with students and have found an effective way to overcome it? |

There is a combination of Korean vowels that produce the same sound the "o" and "a" sound combined gives you "wa" like in warm. |

It's like anyother pronunciation problem, first they have to be able to HEAR the difference between the two sounds. If they can't distinguish between the two then they'll never be able to recreate the sounds.
First write the two different sounds on the board and number them 1 and 2.
Then point at the word and make the appropriate sound. Do this many times.
Then test them by making one of the sounds, and asking them which number it was.
I'm sure if you think back you will remember the difficulty you had distinguishing certain sounds when you lived in Spain, France, or Germany. |
