I'm looking for a eggcrate/bed foam for our new bed. Something like this:

Does anyone know where in Seoul to go to buy that?
(I actually live in Dongdaemun-gu) |

Hold out for one with memory foam if you can. I've got one thats sort of diced 3/4 of the way through, so that if there's weight on one square, the others near it aren't affected, and its glorious. I however, am not in Korea, sorry. |

I just bought some!
I can tell you exactly where to buy it. Euljiro 4-ga station (one stop west of Dongdaemun). There is a small market in that area outside of there... it's called Bang-San-Jong-Hap-She-Jang 방산종합시장. Go out of exit 4, 5, or 6. I found it all around outside of there and in the alleys.
I was looking for acoustic foam (방음 Sponge-ee), but you should just ask for Sponge-ee.
I purchased mine from this store:
Seoul, 방산종합시장 A 동 1충 188 호
Phone: 02)274-5701, 02)269-8355

Check out the 7th or 8th floor in the Yongsan Electronic market where they have furniture and other items located. My wife and I found a few places selling what you are looking for along with some pretty nice memory foam pads which were not too spendy. I am trying to convince her to buy a second memory foam for our home. We have one she had when we got married, and after 3 years of sleeping on the floor I prefer it to the bed these days. Much better for your back and comfortable for the most part. The shops we found have a variety of pad thicknesses ranging from 1" all the way up to 8". Good luck and happy shopping. |

Thanks a million! I've been looking for this since I got here, but all I found was the NASA tempurpedic stuff at 800,000 KRW for a queen size at Shinsage in Jukjeon.
I'll head up to Eujiro and/or Yongsan this weekend. |

That market is fun to look around in just for looking, as well. They sell/make all kinds of odds and ends. It's an interesting shopping experience. I walked around for 30 minutes and found maybe 5 or 6 places selling spong-ee. It's often rolled up outside on display. You'd want the yellow colored one for your bed. Maybe you want to say "Chimday spong-ee" (bed sponge). I'm guessing that would be close enough that they could figure you out. They also sell a lot of non-egg-crate sponge (just flat).
Average prices were around 10,000 won for a 1 meter by 2 meter pad of the acoustic stuff with a sticky back. The non-sticky back was like 8,000 won or thereabouts for the same size. Shop around. Prices and sizes vary a bit, as does thickness. Buy something thicker. |
