What do you remember from past Olympics.
My memories of the Atlanta games are of how bad it made the US looked. Athletes missing events due to poor bus drivers and bad traffic. The bombing. American fans booing the Cuban boxers. The one American female swimmer accusing the Dutch swimmer of being a man after losing to her in the finals. Finally the American media suddenly deciding that the winner of the 100m was not the fastest man in the world but the winner of the 200m was the fastest man in the world. By some strange coincidence the winner of the 200m was an American.
1988 Olympics i just remember the Ben Johnson scandal.
Barcelona Olympics I remember the American diver hitting his head on the diving board. Also the lighting of the Torch. No one has ever done it with as much style.
Don't remember much about either the Athens or Sydney Olympics since I didn't pay much attention to them. |

88 games here in Seoul...American boxer was robbed of the gold, which went to his SK opponent. An opponent who was thrashed.
The American was black. |

The 88 Olympics were the most recent Olympics in which all nations who could sport a team participated. The head honcho who happened to be Korean did a hell of a job in placating everyone so that they would.
participate.
The 1984 Olympics were boycotted by east European countries.
The 1980 Olympics in Moscow were boycotted (thanks to Jimmy carter) by the U.S.
The1976 Olympics were boycotted by the African nations because the New Zealand All Blacks were touring South Africa
The 1972 Olympics saw the Israelis killed by the Arabs.
The 1968 games were held in Mexico where Bob Beamon set the Long jump record that stood for so long. |

I remember being on holiday in Maine for the '92 Olympics and watching Michael Jordan and the olympic basketball team just straight ruining every team that they played by 30+ points. I was 8 at the time and it still remains as one of my best memories of watching sports. |

El Guerrouj in 2004 winning the 1500 at last. Gabrie Selassie in 2000 in the 10000 m. Michelle Smith in 1996 with 3 gold medals...sonia o sullivan in 2000 winning the silver in the 5000. I would have swapped all of smith;s golds for 1 gold for u sullivan. amir khan sticks in my mind also. |
