|
|
Hello to all you laptop professionals.
I own a HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop and it's just over 2 years old. Something has happened to the DVD player and I need to replace it. I need to find a way to get this laptop playing DVD's.
1) Can I just buy another internal dvd player?
2) Do I have to buy an HP internal drive?
3) How much will it cost? (This part scares me)
4) Are there any better options?
5) Will Yongsan be the place I should go?
Thanks so much. |

replacing it would not be that easy for a novice, id suggest buying an external dvdrw. USB
Probably cost you about $50 or so id imagine. |

What about if I just brought my laptop to Yongsan?
Would some place there be able to just replace the old dvd player with a new one? |

The above poster has said the easiest option, external. That's true.
If you need an internal, Hp will tell you you need to replace it with an HP part. This is not the case however. I had to have my old laptop (Compaq) dvd drive replaced, it cost 50.000 won and took 10 mins. A guy in Youngsan did it for me.
Im sorry I cant tell you where to get it done, I just know it was in the subway station building. this was 2 years back sorry. Find a laptop repair place there, or go external. |

wander over to the son-in plaza (across the tracks from yongsan station).
It is the place with the big Gigabyte sign on the side of it (to the right of the blue building).
You will get the best pricing and there are a dozen or so laptop repair shops.
Internal will be about 50-80k for a DVD burner (installed).
IF you just need a combo drive (DVD player / CD burner) it will cost you about 40-50k.

As usual ttompatz is correct.
I bought my dvd combo drive for my old notebook from Yongsan at son-in plaza. Looks run down but has all the bits and pieces. Think I paid 40k for my replacement. The design may not match your notebook but if it fits and works then that's all that matters.
This will be your cheapest alternative unless there is actually nothing wrong with your DVD player! An external drive will always cost more and is quite cumbersome IMO.
Just bring the notebook down along with the offending DVD drive and the technician will guesstimate your needs. |

MAP of the area:

-Exit yongsan station.
-turn right.
-walk to the end of the plaza. You should be looking across the rail yard to a big blue building. (if you see the street you went the wrong way - turn around and walk to the other end.)
-To the right of the big blue building (terminal building) you will see a building with a big gigabyte sign on it.
-turn right. walk to the overpass (overhead pedway across the rail yard.)
-you will enter the blue building on the 3rd floor.
-Go down to the ground floor.
-exit the building (you will see a parking lot in front of you).
-behind the parking lot is the Nanjin Acrade.
-To the right of that (across the road) is the son-in plaza.
Hope that helps.
