I just got a new notebook.
I was going with a t61p from Lenovo but they were to damn slow, I looked at the prices in Canada and Korea..
Canada 1470 with tax and shiping
Korea (When I looked they were almost 3,000,000) they came down to 2.6million
I picked up a Asus M50Vm for 1500 dollars..
Korea 2.1 mil.
I also looked at my mouse Logitech g9 mouse. 69,00 bucks
Korea 119,000
G15 Logitech Keyboard.
Canada $60
Korea 127$
I even went to futureshop and bestbuy and my fav place Ncix/tigerdirect, now even newegg is opening shop in Canada.. I couldn't believe the racket that Samsung and LG pull on ther crap.
I work with graphics so I can distinguish colors really easily. All I got to say that the Samsung had shit quality compared to Toshiba, Panasonic. LG was much better then Samsung.
I could also find stuff that doesn't suck. I finnaly found a Sandisk mp3 player.. 69Dollars for a e270
Also routers and switches and much cheaper in Canada. Plus I can buy good brand names here which is imposible to find in Korea.
I also scored a nice deal on a NAS and a Snap Gear router.
Oh and Blackberries Rock (even iPhone is pretty cool).. Those shity LG and Samsung Haptic/Omni/Blackjack belong in the giant polished turd pile.
I hope America and Canada slap nice high tarifs on their Cellphone garbage since they block foreign cellphone manufacturers. |

A G15 is like $80 in the states. You can really get em cheaper in Canada? I'm in the market for a G11. Any chance I can snag one for $40 if I order from Canada? |

It is because of VAT (Value added tax). Unfortunately Korea is not a true open market yet. |

If you shop smart you can still find decent deals. I just had a custom PC built by an IT guy. He was fair and loaded it with good software. But computer parts will always be cheaper in North America compared to South Korea because of the VAT. If anyone is looking to build a sweet desktop, PM me and I can send you his way. |

ThinkPad T61 15.4'' ThinkPad T400 ThinkPad T500
From: $1,234.00*
Sale price: $925.48*
This was the first North American quote that came up for a T61. I am sure you got a decent price for Korea, the VAT is a b@#$h though hey? |

I found if you checked the price at Bestbuy.ca, converted the canadian to korean, that gave you a good floor price to haggle for.
But in general, I usually waited until I went back to Canada to buy my Korean consumer electronics. In Canada. Where they were cheaper without having to shop around, haggle, get some ajusshi all in your face, etc. To wit, you might be able to get a similar price in Korea but with double the effort and in a whole lot less pleasant manner. |

T61 != T61P
T61 is the castrated version of T61P
T61P is still expensive here even though its no longer made.
The Asus m50Vm is almost 700 dollars more here then in Canada.
Korea is the land of rips offs. If you want to waste 3 days looking at yongsan thats great for you but I can just ordered evrything overnight, next day it was on my doorstep.
Yongsan is also a moot point since Some people don't live in Seoul. |

I agree with you. And Yongsan sucks. Price anything there (even with a Korean with you getting them down to the best deal) against anything in America and it just makes you sick. |

What about Korean made stuff? I've heard they keep their prices up too because competition is low due to the value added taxes on imports. It's a shame, because in a nice world the Korean tech should be nice and cheap for us to enjoy without breaking the bank. |

Korean made stuff is mostly garbage, they usee old crap in their notebooks and still they manfacture most things in China.
Samsung makes overpriced crap notebbooks
LG is really behind the times when it comes to new tech in theirs.
The only thing worth mentioning in this country is cheap memory.
All the stuff is expensive here because Korea is a locked economy. |
