Almost same notebook sells for amazon.com (refurbished) for $799. The only difference is that it has 120gb HD, mine has an 80gb hard drive.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0014H8FT6/ref=dp_olp_2
I bought this 10 months ago. It still has 1 month of worldwide warranty. This is a true gaming machine. **It surpasses the graphics requirement of GEARS OF WAR for PC - a true high end graphics game. I got this HP in USA. I had it tested by HP Korea last week - perfect working order and new main board. **This unit was produced AFTER NVIDIA/HP's recall. HP.com's list of computers affected does NOT include my unit (all units up until dv6400, dodged a bullet!!).
Here is that grand list (by HP) of ALL machines included in the "potentially affected" group:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&lang=en
No dv6500's in the list.
**People on Dave's ESL have posed lower prices of machines with different specs. Yes, a machine with lower specs will be cheaper. Excellent work! Bottom line, is that this machine was purchased from HP.com, 10 months ago for $1000 (with all the coupons I could muster, $250 worth). So, if you think it depreciates 50% or more, in 10months - you should be working in a pawn shop.
SPECS:
HP PAVILLION DV6500 (it says dv6000 on computer but I had 6500 specs put into it - custom made by me via HP.com) This computer requires updates for dv6500 and the Serial number ID's it appropriately (dv6500).
Vista Home Premium 32bit
AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Tech. TL-64 2.2GHz, Dual Core
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Broadcom and WIRELESS: 802.11b/g WLAN
2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
15.4 High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display
HP Imprint Finish (Radiance - High Gloss Finish) + Microphone + Webcam
75GB ATA Hard Drive
High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Built-in System Recovery Vista DVD (built-in Vista Easy Reinstall)
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
Remote Control
3 USB
600,000won
I will lower the price based on if you can show me a comparative unit. This is not about ego.

The fact is, used computers aren't worth much at all. Yes, they depreciate more than 50%. If it's 10 months old, who knows what kind of problems you've had with it. You said yourself in the original post that you had the mother board replaced.
I'll give ya $150 for it. I hope some poor schmuck on here doesn't pay any more, they'll be getting ripped off. |

Okay, smart guy... prove it. You show me a machine, with similar specs as mine that is priced cheaper I dare you. You can't do it. So, go find one and post the link here!
I'm calling your bluff, because you are an angry hakwon'er, and you have fun destroying people's sales.
I've proven it, by proving a link to a refurbished HP dv6500 (with almost identical specs) that sells for $799. |

While I agree with most of what you said 150USD is a lowball offer. Real lowball offer.
inukshuk:
When HP released their laptop line with AMD Turion based processors they created a lot of hype. Especially since Pentium 4 based laptops performed abysmally. However Intel came out with the Pentium M and did okay. Unfortunately for AMD Intel came out with a processor (Core and Core 2) that had better performance and even better power ratings. That is one of the reasons Turion/Turion X2 laptops have dropped in value rapidly when compared to other Core/Core2 laptops around. You will notice that a majority of the laptops out there are now Intel based.
The refurbished laptop you linked to is indeed a Core 2 Duo. It costs just 100USD less than a brand new DV6700t (DV6500 is not being sold on HP.com), and it has just 1GB Dimm instead of the 2GB dimm from HP. So you can see where this goes when you list refurbished laptops as comparision. I might be wrong here but aren't refurbished laptops are mostly targeted @ bulk buyers (companies)? Refurbished is a funny little thing because it's the company doing it. They put in a profit, provide warranty and support. They might offer it for whatever price they see fit but how many would buy it? You would have to drop the price a lot more before you see this laptop go.
I am a fan of the AMD series of processors and have stayed away from Intel for a long time now. Ofcourse it is a different thing altogether @ work. I do not have control over what they buy and it is almost always an Intel based system.
All the best in your sale. If you drop the price do inform me. I'll set the thread "SOLD" . |

So you are making some statements which you have not supported. Show me the super depreciation of HP dv6500's with the same AMD chip?? You can't do it so your point is defeated. If you don't provide some evidence then why bother making a statement.
HP isn't selling dv6500's because it is last years model.
Most manufacturers offer notebooks with both AMD and INTEL. INTEL's are more expensive and AMD's are cheaper. That's the difference.
You are saying the refurbished, amazon unit I listed are from the companies themselves. This is totally without any proof and shows your meager opinion. I've bought all kinds of refurbished goods from ebay sellers who get the goods from the companies. The prices are reduced.
Go ahead and show me the price of a unit with similar specs. End of discussion. |

I thought you sold this |
Hi, I didn't sell this because the buyer backed out based on the misinformation that is being posted by hakwon'ers.
Misinfo like my model has a defective graphics card, my graphics card is too slow, and that my model is worth $450-500.
My buyer called me with these complaints.. |

Wow, they really got to you, your like a trolls dream.
600 is not an unreasonable asking price, but unless I was in dire need of a new lappy, i'd sit tight and see if I could get a better deal |

OP,
If you need to get rid of it then your sweet spot will be around 500,000w.
You could probably offload it for 600,000w if you have patience and keep letting people know you are selling it. Put it on Craigslist and on Facebook.
Unless you have an Apple, laptops depreciate real fast. Your HP is no different than a Dell or ASUS, or Samsung, or whatever. Its the same cheap OEM parts in a plastic case with a different brand name stamped on it.
Can you even say it is a gaming notebook?
http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3273
That is a MIDRANGE gaming notebook and it is around $2000. |

It's not a gaming notebook. That much has been established. I just sold a 17inch laptop with a geforce 6800 in it that would be better for gaming than this one. 500,000. |

Your problem is that you're only looking at HP DV's.
Why does the brand name matter so much as long as it isn't Hewey Packet, or something like that. Sure case engineering could matter in some ways, but it really doesn't matter on a low end $400-500 laptop, they are all good enough. All other hardware inside aren't unique to only HP laptops, they are the same hardwares used in other brands.
So, you should look into Dell, Acer, Compaq, Sony, etc... with the similar specifications. Try searching again for other laptops with similar specifications like I had before on the other post and then post again.
I will go look again for some if you haven't searched thoroughly enough later. |
