So I'm staying at this guy's apartment. Every computer I touch explodes, but whatever. His mouse stopped working... even though the red light showed. For some reason, I switched a tiny button (as in you have to use your fingernail to switch it) on the back of the computer, just above the place where you plug in the mouse.

Completely died. It's a little red switch that offers a choice of (something like) 220V and 110V, or it seems you can settle in between. Whatever all this stuff means. I switched it back, nothing. Turned off the power, unplugged the power cord, etc. Nothing. The thing just won't start.

I really don't get how this stuff happens to me. Anyone know how I can fix this??

I've heard different stuff... it's fried/I'm f----d, it needs a new voltage something or other or power supply- 30,000 or 40,000 WON, it needs a new something else- 100,000 or 200,000 WON... anyone have any thoughts??

The chances are huge you fried the computer by changing the voltage of the computer.


If the mouse doesn't work, why not first try another mouse, before you start touching anything else?

It's not like a mouse is very expensive to buy.

like what was said before, you have fried the powersupply. Take it to a computershop and replace it. Will probably set you back around 50,000 won maybe more. If it is a cheap computer then get a cheap PSU, an expensive computer an expensive psu.

Walk around your apartment and look for a clean and tidy computer shop. when you find one take the computer in (not the screen just the box and power cable). If he speaks english tell him the psu has blown. If not say PSU and then say "boom" ask how much (they will look inside to see what size is already there and give you a price. should be a 10 min job

No offence but i would not recommend changing it yourself (relatively simple job). If you know so little to try flicking the voltage switch, god only knows what you could get upto inside a computer

I'm sorry but I can't help chuckling a little at this one. "I flipped the voltage switch and now the computer doesn't work. I don't get it, why do these things happen to me?"

OP, everyone is right. You blew the power supply, possibly other components as well. You'll need to have the fried parts replaced, and you might want to be a little more careful when flipping bright red switches in the future.

Funniest tech post I've read on the Tech forum yet. OP, you are definitely not a science major and possibly Amish. You see a switch labeled "110V/220V" and have no clue what it could possibly mean? When you walk the streets and see a sign "24/7" you think it is a math problem and walk away saying "3.4285714285714285714285714285714" to yourself?

I shudder to imagine what you could do with a hair dryer...

Let's hope for your friend's sake that the PSU dies before delivering the voltage to the hard drive
