Oddly, because I'm such a fan of zombie and vampire flicks, I didn't think of any of those til they were mentioned. They aren't scary but they're awesome.

The 28 days/weeks were good, especially the former.

2004 Dawn of the Dead was the best in the series (if it could be considered part of the series being a remake) except for the original Night of the Living Dead.

Diary of the dead wasn't amazing but it was a step back to form compared to Land of the Dead.

John Carpenter's The Thing... most re-watched horror movie for me.

Might be considered by some as science fiction but it is not.

I don't believe I've seen The Thing, but I have seen Prince of Darkness which is apparently (I didn't know this) the sequel. Yes, the title is corny, but I rate this movie as claustrophobic and scary - I like it!

All-time best horror movie simply must be Night of the living dead.

(these aren't recent, OP, sorry)

The Orphanage is the best 'horror' movie that's come out recently IMO. Got some great moments that make you jump and a good, logical story.

The Strangers was interesting and had good shock moments that really had my Korean female friend screaming although in total I found it a bit disappointing at the end when the story was revealed.

I agree with others about 1408 too. It was scary enough and also had a fairly original plot.

Saw Midnight Meat Train last Saturday and though it wasn't anything too original it was creepy enough, nicely filmed and Vinnie Jones makes a good psycho. Worth a watch.
