Back in '94, my then seven year old son had a party with his Korean elementary school friends at our house. It turned out that there was a measles outbreak at his school. I was concerned and checked with my folks back home in the States to see that my son's vaccinations were up to date. There was good news and bad news: HIS vaccinations were fine, but MINE were not. I turned out to be in a niche; I was born after kids routinely contracted measles, but before the vaccinations, so I was never vaccinated. Well, I came down with measles (I was in my 30s at the time). That, in turn, killed my immune system and I got pneumonia. As a tertiary problem, I came down with pleurisy, which put me in the hospital for a week. My energy was sapped for a year while I recovered.
Check your own immunization records at the same time you check your kids! |

I never took the final MMR becuase at the time the evidence of the neurological connection became known. It is an uncommon side effect of the vac. Fortunately it is very uncommon. However, my grandfather had just died of a congential brain tumor and my mother was a bit freaked. I and my sisters are one of the few people that fell into the legitamate reasons to not use the vaccine. |

Most Eastern Canadian Uniersities now require you to provide that you've had the vaccination before enrolling due to an outbreak last year. I had to get my updated here. |
