David Duchovny Rehabbing for Sex Addiction Natalie Finn
Thu Aug 28, 3:08 PM ET

The truth is out there, whether we want it or not.

David Duchovny has checked into rehab to undergo treatment for sex addiction, the actor's rep, Flo Grace, confirmed to E! News.

"I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction," Duchovny said in a statement first released by his attorney to People. "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

The 48-year-old X-Files starwho, ironically, won a Golden Globe this year for playing an over-sexed struggling writer on Showtime's Californicationhas been married to Ta Leoni since May 1997. They have two children together, daughter Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd Miller, 6.

"All of us at Showtime wish David and his family the best during this very private time," Richard Licata, the network's executive VP of Corporate Communications, said in a statement to E! News.

The second season of Californication, premiering Sept. 28, finished shooting late last month and 12 episodes are ready to go.

Though it may have been awhile, this isn't the first time Duchovny's sex life has turned into a talking point.

"I'm not a sex addict," he said in an interview with Playgirl in 1997. "I have never been to those meetings. It's hurtful to my family and if I was involved with a woman in a monogamous relationship, it would be hurtful to her.

"There was another story claiming I was a neat freak. If I had to choose one of the two, I think I'd rather be a sex addict. It's not funny and I'll be glad when it goes away."

Uncomfortably enough, Leoni herself quashed a rumor that her hubby was afflicted with a sex addiction back in May of 1998, telling Elle that she found the notion "very exciting."

"David was accused of being a sex addict," Leoni, who had been married for one year at that point, said. "Which I always found very exciting. And then I found out it wasn't true."

"Men are like bulls," she continued. "They gotta get the new cow. Maybe you've got to get the bull after he's had a lot of cows, so you might just be the last new one."

Publicity.....

"Californication" had some pretty classic moments. I hope it starts again soon.

You have to wonder what kind of sex addiction would be so serious he'd check into a "rehab facility"?

On second thought, maybe I don't want to know.

So like, what separates a Sex Addict from a normal male? If you:

1. Want to have sex all the time
2. Look at women and think "Would I have sex with her?"
3. Constantly think about sex

then I think every red-blooded hetero male on the planet should be in rehab right now.

To me that's the definition of success. And one can always have a relapse, again and again. So not like alcohol, where things have an ominous ring of finality.

I wonder what the rehab's program is, can't be like A Clockwork Orange surely, with physical discomfort being meted out.

Whatever they do, they'd better be on top form if ever I have to show my face there.

One variety of it is masturbating several times a day. Is that what you guys are admitting to?

Really? So you (like Eddie Murphy) have hooked up with a transvestite on Sunset Blvd due to your sexual compulsions? To get into Alcoholics Anonymous I think you got to do a bit more than think "god I would like a gin and tonic right now." I am guessing a sexual addiction is a bit more than just thinking "Would I have sex with her?"

Probably has a problem with fidelity, and its a label he could attach to himself as having a problem and still keep his marriage.

If I were a rich celebrity, I would make Charlie Sheen look like an amateur. 3, 5, 10, 20 girls in one bed, easy. I'm not afraid to admit that I would be the biggest Man-*beep* on the planet. Look at Hugh Heffner, is he a Sex Addict that needs to go to rehab?

What separates a Sex Addict, from someone who just wants to have sex with hot women all the time? Is Hugh Heffner and Charlie Sheen sex addicts?
