|
|
Last year, I used a KEB card to make purchases, but this year, my Nonghyup card is rejected when I present it. Why? Dunno. I could shoot myself for closing that KEB account though I'd have to go many miles to a KEB and then it would be closed on any day I'm off when it's open. Now that leaves me wondering if I can deposit a foreign check at Nonghyup like I did at KEB. Seems that Nonghyup is only domestic instead of being connected to Wall street like KEB through the Bank of New York. Nonghyup is the only kind of bank in all these Gangwon towns.
I see other Koreans using bank cards in this Easy Mart store, but why is my rejected? Is it only an ATM cash card? Maybe. It's got a microchip in it where it looks like a European calling card with the gold connectors. Same thing as a GSM phone cell phone chip. I thought I had a cool bank card, but I guess not.
Anyone have a Nonghyup bank card that works as a debit card? I will have to try it when I visit an Emart or Homeplus in the big easy, uh, I mean polluted big smoke full of assbestos. |

My Nong-Hyup ATM card says 'International' up in the top left corner and NACF Debit & Cash Card in the lower left corner. I've never tried to use it that way; I just use my Nong-Hyup credit card.
Perhaps you should go back to your bank and get either a debit card or a credit card. |

There's nothing wrong with Nonghyup, you just don't have a debit card for buying things. You can use their debit or credit cards most anywhere. Just follow Ya-Ta's advice. |

Can I use a NongHyup debit card to pay bills online, in particular my AT&T cell phone bill and Citibank Mastercard? |

Like with getting a cell phone, I'd need to go to a big city on this one too. Service is next to nothing if not in one of the 6 metro areas which is the way it goes with small town people simply not knowing much. I find service at the bank and most other businesses to be very shorted and unnecessarily limited, but that's just Korea in most instances. It will never be, "Westernized," in the true sense like Japan or even Thailand. Dam conservatives. I guess it's high time I get even more conservative and buy less of their short sized over priced low quality crap though it's unsettling to be hungry and bored. |

nonghyup has two types of cards: the atm card (blue and green) has the chip on it but is only used for atm withdrawals.
you can get a check card/debit card from them as well. they have different options depending on what kind of "points" you want to accumulate when you use it. Look to see that is has BC card, or some other accepted transaction company. (similar to PLUS, CIRRUS, etc. from the States or abroad. |
