I am so confused.

My visa expires this week, and I am continuing on for six months. I got my alien card changed and was told I didn't need a new visa. Boss told me. Immigration told him that was the case.

This makes no sense to me..other teachers in town who got new contracts at the same school are in the same position..no new visa just change to alien card.

Is this right? I swear I can't get a straight answer..no one seems to know.

Thanks.

thats right you're all set. You may though need to get a reentry permit if you want to take a vacation during the next contract

Your Alien card rules above whatever is (or isn't) stamped in your passport.

Thanks for your help.

Guess I don't need to worry about it then.

Cheers.

can you have your ARC extended for any amount of time or does it have to be six months or a year? ie; could my boss extend it for three months?

Really you don't have to do another visa run?

A teacher at my school extended for sixth months. I'm pretty sure he was told the extension could be anything up to a year.

I've got this question too-- specifically: What forms do I need to take to Immigration to renew? My school can't seem to get me any answers. The last time I went, I remember having an envelope full of stuff.

Right now, I've got my new contract signed and in hand. Does anyone know what else I should take with me to Immigration? Passport and Alien card are a given... what about my diploma? Any application forms that I can't pick up at the office when I go? Is there some other proof of employment needed beyond the actual contract?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thats about it. Passport, ARC, new contract. Dont forget to bring some cash (I forget -- 30 thousand? 50? no more than that). You'll fill out a form at the office. It really probably would smooth things if your director accompanied you, failing that they'll likely want to phone your boss.

If your year's up so's your re-entry status so if you plan any ins & outs its a good chance to update that too (another form, more cash).

Thanks. I didn't think about the multiple entry visa... so that's cancelled and replaced with a single entry then?

Check the dates. I dont think theres anything automatic about re-entry but its straightforward to upgrade.

Followup:

I went to immigration today and was unable to complete my application. In addition to a copy of the contract, passport, alien registration card and cash... you need a notarized letter of sponsorship, from the local notary office.

Just adding that to the thread for future reference.

EDIT: You also need a copy of your school's business registration.

What's that? A letter from your boss, stamped by a notary office here in Korea?

Anyway...

2 questions:

1.) If you're renewing for a second year, do you need your diploma copy (and transcripts) again, or are they already "in the system"?

2.) I arrived in Korea in March 27, 2003, and then immediately flew from Incheon to Busan. My Incheon airport stamp says "March 21, 2003", but my Busan airport stamp says "March 27, 2003". Clearly the Incheon date is a mistake. As such, my Alien Card also says it expires on March 21, 2004.

So... I should stay here until march 27th in order to collect severance pay.... what should I do? Go to immigration and get it extended?

Aisssshhhhhh! Mad

It's at least a couple plages long, with title page, etc. But that's apparently what it is.

Also, I'm sorry in that I should have added this earlier (but I edited it in above to be sure), you also need a copy of your school's business registration.
