				| What's the lightest free antivirus these days? Using the nod32 trial, but want to know if there's anything easier on the system resources.
I seem to remember someone on here saying they were going to look into it a little while back, so I figured I'd ask and see if anyone found anything decent.

				| I asked about Nod.
I haven't tried it yet. You need more than just antivirus these days. These companies have split into two products now, or one that does two things, so you have to pay more. You now need both antivirus and antispyware, or you can still get nailed. Some products have both built-in (Kapersky) but want you to pay $40 US a year.

I'm on a trial of Kapersky, and it's a bit heavier on resources than Avast, I think. I don't know what its footprint is. It works well, though, and scans faster. I probably won't buy it because of the price.

On my home computers, I use Avast free and run free PC Tools in the background to do checks twice a day (have to manually clean off what it finds, though). I try to run Avast AV at least once a week, which also must be manual because it's a free version. These two things keep me pretty safe.

I couldn't find a product I liked that was all-in-one that didn't cost a buttload (like Kapersky). They offer little as far as discounts. Plus, they are a Russian product, and I don't feel like giving my money to any Russian companies at this point in time.

I want to try the NOD32 trial next month, after Kapersky's trial runs out.

				| Nod32 is pretty good and an aggressive updater, I'll be sticking with it unless someone's come up with a truly light AV. Anyway, I also run noscript and I'm pretty careful about my browsing habits and cookies, so I'm not sure if I'll run spybot/adaware/whatever. Extra things slowing me down irk me even though my new system is pretty fast.

 P.S.
Demo and co. might be interested to know that Vista runs fast enough that I'm considering using it as my main OS. Found a few more things that irk me since the first time I used it, but *most* of them can be dealt with.
