The place in Ansan that sold them shut down.
I've heard there is some Indonesian restaurant in Itaewon that sells them, but haven't found this mysterious, hidden restaurant.
Anyone know where to buy cloves ?? |

Are you thinking about the one behind the Hamilton, just across from Three Alleys? As for Ansan, I thought there were plenty of shops selling them there. Check out the little cafe in the network of arcades around the station. It's run by real live Indonesians. |

| Across the street from the train station in Iksan there's a World Food Market. I went in there today and there was a group of men sitting at a table smoking cloves. |

Iksan's not exactly Seoul.
The shop in the arcade of Ansan station (run by real live Indonesians) has been closed for at least 8 months now.
In Ansan, the only place you can still buy them (last time I was there) was the Indonesian restaurant. They were still 2500 a pack. |

Visited Ansan yesterday and had a wonderful day drinking there and enjoyed two meals, one Indonesian and one Indian. I could count the places that sold kreteks on both hands and a friend of mine took away three packs of Dji Sam Soe (234) with him. Starting from across the road from the station, there is the Asian Mart that has the Warung Indonesia inside (look for the sign saying Buka Tiap Hari). If you go from there up the main street, pretty much every little mart selling groceries has them as well as the Thai place that is up the street perpendicular to that one (take a right after the park). Anyhow, hope this helps. Sad to hear about the Warung/Kedai Kopi in the arcade, as the workers there are nice folks and I loved sitting there for hours with a milky coffee amongst the smell of kreteks and the sounds of Bahasa Indonesia. |

I would like to try some of them "sugar and spice" ciggarettes..
although the company is now owned by Phillip Morris
Sampoerna 'A' Mild, a filter cigarette in white paper. The filter has a sweet coating of sugar and spices.
Although the cigarette is described as mild, it contains similar tar and nicotine levels to Marlboro Red.
"234" (pronounced Dji Sam Soe), an unfiltered cigarette with 39mg of tar and 2.3 mg of nicotine per stick. |
