I've tried many times and have never successfully gotten a text from my cell phone to the USA or vice versa, HOWEVER, I just discovered a 2-way online system that DOES work. It's called Joopz (www.joopz.com). You have to create a free account and then you can text up to 50 times per month to any cell phone in the USA or Canada and if/when you get a response, it's displayed on your Joops homepage on the web.

Cool huh?

Still no way that I know of to text directly to/from your Korean cell phone to the USA or Canada, but this has got to be the next best thing.

I do it on occasion though skype (yes, I know it isnt free)

Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T let you send texts via their website or you can email them texts and they can reply through your email address.

True, however, only Joopz, to my knowledge, allows the recipient to reply immediately right from their own cell phone in such a way that you can read their message on your end.

People can immediately reply to you.. I was "texting" my friend via email back an forth. He'd get it as a text message, and I'd get mine as an email.

Also I forgot you could text on AIM Exclamation

Good point, and now i'm gonna have to put that to use

Yes, you put +1 in front of their number as the screen name. It's free for you and just charges regular texting on their end. All my friends and my parents have unlimited text messaging on their plans, so it works out well. They can also respond just by directly responding to the message you send

That's a pretty cool system too then. Personally, I don't want to download any software (required for AIM standard) and their web-based java system always crashes my computer. But thanks for the tip!!!

I send text messages to Korea on a daily basis and my friends in Korea send them back to me in America. We have never had a problem...his phone number even shows up when I get the text on my Verizon phone...that's cool.

I wish I knew how your phone and those of your friends differ from mine and those of my friends. It just flat out fails EVERY time!
