Friday night we had a welcome dinner and went to the bar afterwards. My female director and a few korean and foreign co teachers were drinking soju beer and coke. My director kept feeding me more drinks and and I said some really stupid stuff. I was generally being an idiot and telling her who I think is hot in our school, called her out on some stuff that really embarrassed her, and ripped some stuff off the neighbor's door.

I don't remember doing any of these things and now I feel like an idiot. I apologized on the phone the next morning and she seemed really cool about it and said not to worry but... tomorrow at work is going to be really awkward, I am going to pretend like nothing happened and maybe bring her some coffee or chocolate or something. Am I screwed?

I'm sure she has seen worse. She can't really fire you as she was the one pumping you full of Soju. I think I would just take her aside when you return to work and tell her you don't drink that often (if it is the truth) and apologize again for your behavior. In addition, I would promise her it will not occur again. I don't think I would bring her in anything. She probably would like this to pass as quickly as you so why make a scene at work. Just apologize in private again and get on with life.

Do you mean that you wouldn't bring any gifts for your boss?

Take this advice from those of us with a little bit of experience with women- a small, personal gift is a good way to make amends. If the boss happens to be a man the advice would be something different.

Yeh, well generally when you make an ass out of yourself by talking about whose ass you like at work bringing your female boss in a "box of chocolates" as the op suggested could make matters even more awkward.

OP, you are a man who works for a female boss. You can't treat all bosses exactly the same. Show you have some class and make amends with a small gift.

You'll be fine. That's what these little shindigs are for. Revelers can drink, drink, drink and then make asses out of themselves without any shame. I've seen (high ranking) guys stagger out of these places puking up all over the place and even getting into fights with each other. All was well the next morning.

Soju is the Korean version of Soma, and those little restaurants are each a small piece of Las Vegas. What happens there stays there, even if it does spill out into the parking lot and complete strangers see the insanity.

You were talking about which students are hot or what teachers are hot?

Anyway sorry to hear about your story, I think she'll understand as we all do stupid stuff when we're drunk. Just don't make a habit of it and you'll be fine.

Laughing You may even get a date or two out of it once some of those hotties hear that you find them attractive. Oh, yes, they will know it by tomorrow morning.

You COULD grab one of those 50% off Chuseok fruit boxes at some local store and take that in. Wink

What woman doesn't appreciate over ripe fruit that is on sale because the holiday is over....tacky. Stick with a sincere apology.

You say that because you're exactly the kind of guy who would do that kind of thing. Still, I think it's probably not a big deal, though we don't know exactly what you said/did.

Yes, we don't know just how much of an ass you made of yourself, but your boss was feeding you alcohol and Koreans make excuses for people who are drunk...However, stop off at a store on the way to work and buy some fruit for the whole office, not just the boss.

A ham-handed attempt at group harmony is worth millions here. I don't think you need to actually bring up what you said/did, just offer everyone some fruit and grin.

And learn not to empty your soju glass--it won't be filled till it's empty, so leaving it full indicates that you aren't ready for more.

Thanks for all the replies. No I wasn't talking about the students I was talking about which korean co-teachers were hot. One of them is married.. oops. I was more worried about the whole loosing face thing if I had embarrassed my boss because she could make my life miserable.

I have only worked here for 2 weeks so not the best first impression. One of the other foreign teachers was trying to babysit me and has been filling me in on all the stupid things I was doing.

No I don't usually get wasted here this was the first time (different story in college).

Oh my God, the original post could have been written by me!

Take it from a guy that's done the exact same thing: there will be a lot of gossip about you for about a week, and the stories will be worse than what actually happened. After week? It'll all be gone. It may be a tough week for you, though. Just keep your head down, and really do well in your classes.

Fruit for all of your co-workers, or better yet a case of that vitamin juice will help to smooth things over. It would be WAY better to buy something for everyone. The vitamin juice is good; it comes in a case of maybe 12?

Good luck!

Sounds like your boss was trying to get you drunk. Maybe she likes you.

This could turn out great. Maybe the other "hot" ladies will hear and get interested as well. Your "openess" might be the luckiest thing you ever did. Don't automatically assume they are upset with you. There may be a competition among the ladies over who gets you first. Very Happy

It happened to me, it can happen to you too.

Good Luck
