I've checked out getting a phone here in Korea, and they are outrageoulsy expensive. The cheapest card phone I could find was about 400k won. The last phone I had was really cheap. Where can I go and get a decent phone for a good price? I'm assuming Seoul.

You must be kidding.
I bought a cardphone at a KTF store for 70,000 won. Brand NEW. Admittadly, it isn't the best phone around, but it works fine and has all the standard features etc.

Perhaps the store you were going at decided to give you the Waygook "discount".

I'm not joking. I had my coteacher come with me and everything. I said that I wanted a card phone and the cheapest one they had. The teller said because I "wasn't Korean" that I did not quaify for the "discount" Korean's get. So it came to a price of 385000 WON. I'm in a small town, but there has to be something better out there.

I also said I didn't want to sign up for a 2 year plan.... don't know if that had an affect on pricing.

I agree, Yongsan is the place. Not the mall part, but the secondary building behind the flashy one.

Not the main building with the station in it, bu the one behind (northeast??) that you get to by walking over the traintracks in an elevated passageway.

Just say "jungo-pone"...means used phone.

Also, a friend of mine got a contract phone super cheap....it IS possible.

I'm not sure your co-teacher would be aware of this since he or she probably got his or her phone new.

If you're in the Emart building you're in the wrong place.

Best places to get one are the terminal building or the basement of the Nanjin Arcade.
