I'd be grateful for some help with this issue.

How much is deducted from your pay to cover 50% health insurance? My contract says the school will pay half and half will be deducted from my monthly paycheque. Therefore, I've always just assumed the 60 000 they take every month is matched. However, I've spoken with some people working at other schools who tell me that they only pay 30 000. Is there some sort of sliding scale for health care or is my school not paying their share?

I don't remember the exact number, but the total is about 5% of your salary, so you should pay about 2.5%.

Oh, and it someone is only paying 30k won for NHIC medical then one of 3 things is happening:

a) they only earn 1.2 mil per month.

b) the employer is pocketing the money and they have no insurance (and no insurance booklet).

c) the employer is lying to NHIC about their earnings (to reduce the premium) so chances are great that they are getting cheated on their pension too (declared income of 1.2 mil per month so they end up paying 100% of the contribution and only get 1/2 what they should when they leave).

Thanks folks! I feel better now.

I'm going to warn the 30 000 people that their employers may be ripping them off. It actually didn't seem like my boss to pull something like that, but it's nice to have it confirmed.

Hmm.. I was paying 33,000 won a month for my health insurance and I had a valid health insurance book and all. I was earning more than 1.3 million too. Very Happy

Could just be a case of me being lucky. The above looks more legit.
