|
|
I am leaving Korea on Monday (and won't be back for a while), and promised my husband I would find him a Dokdo shirt, hat or other merchandise. But it's Chuseok and stores are closed, and when I was out looking here in Jeonju last week I had no luck with anything Dokdo-themed.
Might there be any Dokdo themed stuff at Incheon airport? I will have some time to kill there. The Dokdo thing might not be something they want to bring up in an airport that international travelers pass through, if anyone has any leads (or memories of where this stuff might be in/near the airport) let me know.
If seems like you can buy this kind of thing online. But I don't care quite enough to do that... |

Koreans will do anything to make money -
including making out Dokdo to be a HUGE controversy with the Japanese - just to try to get the worlds attention...
they think after making "Dokdo" famous - through this "big controversy" - that 1000's of foreign tourists are going to flock to korea to visit and stay at Dokdo...'
and putting "I love Dokdo" and "Dokdo pics" on all their merchandise - they are assuming all koreans will buy it - to try to be "more Korean"
I REFUSE to buy any products that have the word "dokdo" printed on it...
what idiots....
What foreign tourist would want to fly all the way to korea - to sit on a big rock in the middle of the ocean? |

Silly to say, but I've seen Dokdo shirts at Dunkin' Donuts. I've seen them near the front counter. Why Dokdo+Dunkin' Donuts? I really don't know. |

Well, my husband just wants the T-shirt as a joke. He doesn't plan to GO to Dokdo, or anything...
I kind of like the Dunkin Donuts shirts, to be honest- for their silliness. I think they say, "Do You Know? Dokdo is Korean" or something like that. There is no Dunkin Donuts near me, though...
I hope I can find something equally silly in the airport. |

Really stupid and insensitive. You realize Dokdo has significance to Koreans long before they were selling Dokdo products and putting stuff in the newspaper. Some of you not only have 0 respective for Koreans, and 0 understanding of Korean people, it's history and culture. And in return, you want to be treated like a god here. |

People reap what they sow.
Koreans want to make a big deal about an island that a) don't even own and b) doesn't matter anyways.
I give cultures the respect they deserve.

Who are you to say it doesn't matter just because it doesn't matter to you? It matters to Korean people. Do you know anything about Korean/Japanese relations in the past? Doesn't sound like it.
According to the US, Koreans do own the island. |

Nobody cares, and your moral indignation is hilarious. I'd love to see those islets snatched from their control just to watch them squirm. Koreans who think "Dokdo" is rightfully theirs are dumb and/or ignorant, nothing more.
Takeshima is rightfully and legally Japan's - this is a demonstrable fact. Investigate the history, and escape your ignorance. |

And people who wear 9/11 tshirts aren't doing essentially the same thing as a dokdo tshirt?
Oh wait those tshirts are tacky and in poor taste as well. |

You got it wrong, buddy.
Some people have a very strong understanding of Korean people, history, and culture, and that's precisely why they have 0% respect and believe they deserve to be treated like gods.
Not saying that's how I feel, but still...the longer people stay here, and the more they learn about Korean and Koreans, the deeper the love/hate passive-aggressive relationship grows. |

i think that's a pretty far stretch of a comparison. raising money (which most people did w/ t-shirt sales) for people/children who lost relatives/parents is not the same as selling dokdo t-shirts for national pride.
personally i don't care one way or the other about the dokdo case. koreans have every right to protest/cause a stir over japanese proclamation of ownership of the rocks (i'm not even going to call them land). |

I went to Ulleungdo and couldn't find a single Ulleungdo T-shirt. They were all Dokdo/Sea of Korea type ones. |
