| I've seen this on posters for an upcoming festival in Gwangju, and also signs for restaurants and nightclubs. This morning I saw it printed on some CDs for sale at the local supermarket. Anybody know what 7080 means? |

| That is the name of a delicious galbi restaurant near my home. That's all I know. I think I've seen 7080 elsewhere, but can't remember right now. |

We will be celebrating the 70s and 80s...Gwangju Style! All I remember from last year was a performance of the Grease soundtrack on the steps of the main post office.
It's the "...and 2030!" part that confuses me... |

386 doesn't come from the old computer model name.
It referred to a generation that was in their 30s (in the 90s anyway), went to uni in the 80s and was born in the 60s. |

As someone else mentioned, it refers to the 70s and 80s. Things with this name in are generally targetted at the late 30s-60s crowd. You'll see a lot of bars with "7080" in the name. They are all singing bars, kind of like karaeoke in the west. Usually there'll be a keyboard player as well as the pre-recorded music. Those bars can be kind of fun but they're not used to foreigners and the crowd tends to be quite old haha. The bartenders there are also very flirty and might be hookers, I'm not quite sure. (they also tend to be late 30s-40s)
The nightclubs with that in the name are adjumma/adjossi nightclubs. Fruit and whiskey and old music.
I've not noticed restaurants with 7080 in the name.. but if there are soe I guess they're aiming at the same crowd.. nostalgia food? Who knows..
There are also lots of the above with 3040 in the title. I guess this refers to people who are in their 30s and 40s, though these days they should probably be called 4060 or something. |
