The debate is over for today--well, it will be in a couple of minutes.
Who won? |

I think both did very well in general. Neither one fell down and slobbered. Neither made a major gaffe, or even really a small one.
I think Obama 'won' because:
a) Obama was articulate
b) He came across as a master of details as well as the general view
c) He was aggressive in defending himself.
d) Maybe most of all, I feel more comfortable with him than I did before. It's just a gut thing, but he came across as reasonable, intelligent and like he could serve as a good president. |

I'm not a fan of McCain's substance, but I feel Obama (from the parts that I saw) didn't hit back hard enough for McCain's repeated 'What Obama doesn't understand' comments.
A phrase like that, repeated enough times and not countered, is far too damaging. |

Come on. You want to spin this as a B. Obama victory because you support B. Obama. No more no less. Why dress it up with fake objective analysis?
I do not know how to evaluate who "won" this debate other than to check tomorrow's changes in the polling data. Besides that, I did not see any of the two candidates stumbling hard enough to worry about it tonight.
First impression: opening round, both fighters came out fighting, looking in good shape for a three-round bout. |

McCain did better than I expected he would, after his performance of the past week. He was aggressive. But I didn't think any of his attacks worked. I felt Obama hit back adequately and defended himself fairly.
I saw McCain as dealing with little details rather than the over-arching view. I could see him as being very effective in the Senate fighting for Obama's policies. I can't see him setting the policies. |

Gopher please. I know and you know that you will say McCain won because you like him. Don't act like yata is unique.
Me, however, I adore Obama, despite it all. And he did not do well. He was not aggressive enough. |

Show me where I said "McCain won."
As far as B. Obama's performance goes, he presents very well. Always has. I remain worried about him as a serious threat to J. McCain. We really have no idea how this election will end up.

Unlike you apparantly, I am able to give my view of what I saw without waiting to be told by the talking heads what to think. |

Surprisingly it was a TIE I'd say
I expected McCain to look bad on domestic economic issues and he held his own! But at the same time I expected him to score more points on foreign military issues and he really didn't gain much there
I actually thought McCain looked better/Obama looked worse att times when McCain took shots at Obama. EXPECT MORE ATTACKS FROM MCCAIN IN FUTURE DEBATES.
I thought Obama came out of the gate looking strongest, as the early part was quite formal and his articulate presidential disposition was evident.; It almost felt like Obama was an incumbent seeking a second term strong start |

No, no, no, Ya-ta Boy. That is not the meaning of "check the polling data." Has nothing at all to do with "talking heads." One way to evaluate who won the debate tonight is to see how it impacted the voters, especially the undecideds, after tomorrow.
Is that idea truly too difficult for you to follow? |

That is an interesting response. I saw the opposite. He seemed much more aggressive than I've seen him in the past. My biggest fear was that McCain would shoot his mouth off and shred Obama. It didn't happen. |

That is fascinating. Because my biggest fear is the same, but, obviously for other reasons. I want J. McCain to keep his temper under complete control in these debates. |

Maybe. But when Mac called him naive again and again without an aggressive retort I felt like Obama was being too polite. Naive? Who was balls-deep in the "lets invade Iraq" hysteria? Has Mac ever met a war he didn't like? (The answer is NO.). |
