I want to buy a Wii.
If I buy a Korean Wii, can I get games in English? In other words, is there a language setting for say, Wii Sports or Wii Fit? |

Will American games work on a Korean Wii?
If not, do Korean Wii games generally come with multiple language settings? |

Search this forum. There are a lot of threads concerning this and other questions about Korean Wii. |

Well, in the first four pages of search results for "wii" I haven't seen much that's answered all my questions directly... |

English setting on wii itself... No
but if you get it modded, and you buy or download english games.. then the menus on those games will be in English. |

You mention Wii Fit in the original post. I was told at Yongsan that the balance board is not yet available in Korea. Were you able to find one for Wii- Fit?
Thanks |

If you get your Korean wii modified you can buy a Japanese version or american version on play-asia or ebay.. you can play it on your Korean wii no problem. |

Rather than start another Wii thread I thought I'd post my question here since eslcafe has become the definitive place to talk modded Wiis in Korea (google it and it's close to the top).
Anyhow, my question: Can modded Korean Wiis play burned, North American Gamecube games? I'm thinking of buying a Wii but There don't seem to be enough games for Wii I want to play to warrant the purchase, unless I can count Gamecube games. I've never played a Gamecube before and there are some pretty cool looking games for it. |

I could be wrong, but I think that the Wii is not backwards compatible. It is one way they kept the price down. Xbox 360 is still working through the xbox catalog, I think, with most titles good to go. The PS3 is fully backwards compatible with PS2.
Anybody know for sure? |

The Wii is fully backwards compatible with the gamecube. It even has four gamecube controller ports and a slot for gamecube memory cards. Whether you can on the Korean one I am yet to work out. It has all the ports anyway. I might give it a go in the next couple of days
edit
I just had a quick google and the first few results mention that gamecube compatibility was disabled for the Korean Wii. Seems odd. Maybe someone else can say otherwise. |

The Korean wii (and ONLY the Korean wii) is not backward compatible. So you can NOT play gamecube games. |

I had a suspicion. It's probably cheaper to make them non-compatible and the Gamecube was never officially released in Korea so... |
