Hope you are enjoying life in those hogwans. As you say a good hogwan is golden.
I have spent the last hour writing on here while listening to the chilli peppers. The other day I watched the Canucks game from start to finish.
In January I have a 4 week vacation with my flight payed for by the school.
Next week is exam week and I have no classes. The Canucks play in the morning and I also have no classes so I guess I will watch that.
I went up stairs and had a 1 hour nap today. Life is rough. Let's here some of those golden hogwan moments. |

It's not that the hagwon is better than that... it's that I NEVER EVER EVER had ONE SINGLE DAY like that in my public school. NEVER. Forget weeks, I didn't get ONE SINGLE FUCKING DAY. There was always someone looking over my shoulder, riding my ass over some bullshit, or trying to get me to come in on Saturday.
You got a good PS. We can't all be so lucky. |

I'm in a similar boat as you though my school won't be paying for any winter vacation flights (I assume it's your renewal?)
but even though I thing the hogwan offer I passed up for this PS wasn't that bad, and it'd be a "good" hagwon, I wouldn't now switch places for the WORLD. A couple of hundred won a month can't possibly compare to getting monthlong vacations twice a year (though this also depends on your school)
and of course there are 'exam weeks' and cancelled classes because their teachers want to prepare them for their exams, etc. I ALWAYS offer to please ask for my help with anything if wanted/needed but am never taken up on these. Actual work load is E-Z.
the only possible regret is that if I now chose to work in a hagwon it'd have to be in Seoul, where I would atually have a "social life". But that offer wasn't in Seoul. |

Well, Friday was a good day for my hagwon. It would seem that all of the kids had a school trip of some sort during the day. They were not available to come. When they did come there were just a couple of them. There wasn't much to do. I hung out with the kids and got to know them better.
The more advanced classes had some camp going on from Wed. - Fri. and weren't there. It was a relaxed week.
Tomorrow, we get to go out to a nice lunch for free! They are even paying for my wife who has nothing to do with the school.
Friends of my boss frequently take my wife out. She is on an F-3 and cannot work legally. They have taken her to several places thus far.
I am only gone for 7 hours per day. That is from the time I walk out until the time I get back home.
Overall, my hagwon suits me just fine. Did I mention that I have absolutely no paperwork to complete whatsoever. I have no co-teacher. I control every aspect of what I teach, when I teach it, and how I teach it.
Sure, there are some downsides, but I like my situation. Plus, overtime is there for the taking anytime I want it! |

I had a great day at my Hagwon yesterday. Got my 3.0mil pay and my usual 500k housing allowance (which I don't need as I own my own place).
Yep, hagwon life sucks. |
