Why? Did your mom get a giant butterfly covering her muffin top when she went through her 'finding herself' phase? Sensitive topic? |

As I said above, I don't disagree with your assessment of modern Western (especially American) culture. I do dispute the tattoo thing.
What I find ironic is that you are basically a free market kind of guy. The ME, ME, ME school of thought. Invisible hand of the market and all that...
It strikes me as much the same thing. |

I have a more sophisticated understanding of what a market is, and why we need to use them. Markets are the "dissemination and aggregation of large amounts of information". It has nothing to do with "me" or money.
The meat and potatoes of what I am getting at is that the Fed and central banks + fiat in general don't just destroy economies and create massive inequality but actually dislodge cultures. The incentive becomes consume, borrow and a lifestyle of debt. That is, a lifestyle of stimulation today and pain tomorrow. What is the point in saving when the purchasing power of your savings is eroded?
Since America was totally removed from the gold standard wages have not increased one penny, adjusted for inflation. Instead, they've been given access to credit in lieu of rising incomes (which were inflated away). I believe that the culture of debt fuels the cycle of consumption, contrived consumer identities and a now perspective.
The monetary system needs to incentivise savings, production and long term thinking. The current one incentivise debt, consumption and short term thinking.
Wide spread use of tattooing is, in my opinion, as symptom of a society that is unable to make mature, long term decisions with money, their bodies and the rest. Obesity neatly fits into this as well. |

| However many of the soldiers who fought for your and our freedom were Tattoed. The post of the OP reminds me of the redneck country hicks. Who drive their pick-up truck into the big city. Upon seeing Mohawked Punk rockers they shout insults and throw beer at them and quickly speed away. |

Tattoos are fodder for attention whores. They are for the working class louts who lack originality or intellect.
Look at me! I believe I'm breaking the status quo by inking my body! White trash is chic! I'm boning my sister too! |

Since I've been to Korea I've noticed that when I visit Canada people are really getting Tattoed.
Tattoing really popular with Brits particularly the kind you bump into in Pattaya Walking street. It's been popular with Brits since punk. I remember being in Wales in 1984 and I met this Skinhead who had Oi tattoed on his forehead. I also met a lot of Phyco Billes. They really get into tats
Last summer I attended The Teenage head free concert in Hamilton. I was one of the few there who was not tattoed. |

Are tattoos still popular? I still think of them dated in populary back to early 1990s to mid-1990s.
I think they hit the urban cities first, and then take forever to get into the countryside, small cities/provinces...then it just sticks for semi-forever it seems until the most popular of the most popular of the cities moves out again.
Kinda like long hair...first its popular in urban cities in the 1960s, and a decade (or two) later it becomes popular in the countryside. |

Once something becomes popular in a small town it becomes hick. Remember what happened to the mullet.
By the way Tiger Beer always reminds me of Tattoed Thai Bargirls. It's the only time I ever drink the stuff. |
