Yes, I eat it twice per day. One of the school lunch ladies gives me a big hand full because they know I put it on my rice. At dinner, which I pay the school to give me, I help myself. great stuff! |

I liked it a bit when I first got here. It was the novelty of it, I guess. Now, I can't stand the stuff. Haven't had it for years. I pity the poor kids that have to eat it daily. |

Yeah and no. If it's in a fairly or very upmarket place, I think kimchi is fab, but in a low status place, or at work, no way. The difference is massive. Sometimes a cheap independent restaurant will have good kimchi and generally this is an indication of the quality of their gear. I love it when kimchi is tangy and layered and hate it when it's slop. I remember when I had some dwenjang jjigae at a restaurant on Namsan very near the Tower and that sidedish of kimchi sticks out in my memory as the nicest I've ever had. Also you can't beat pork, kimchi and garlic wrapped in a nice lettuce leaf during samgyeopsal. Yeolmu kimchi is more consistent in quality in my opinion and also good. I like the turnip and courgette kimchi the least for some reason even though I don't dislike those particular vegetables. |

I like it, but for the people who eat it thrice daily, the highest rate of stomach cancer can be found in Korea. Any guesses as to why? |

I used to love kimchi when I first tried it in the states but here, I eat so much of it that the novelty is wearing off. I can only eat it once a day and that's for school lunch. Perhaps I should try some dishes that incorporate it rather than eating it straight. The spiciness of Korean food is something I can't get enough of though.
I had to sit yesterday through a class of students reading essays about the wonders of kimchi! Some of the things I heard is...kimchi is delicious, everybody all over the world knows about kimchi, kimchi fights cancer and Korean kimchi is better than Chinese or Japanese kimchi. I was ready to shoot myself. It's good but it's not the seventh wonder of the world. I don't see any other country building up its food to such a degree. |
