My typical dinner is to go to a restaurant and point to the menu on the wall and say give me that...

One day I ordered something called "san ji"... it's a very spicy soup

It has coagulated cow's blood in it.

Not Korean, but raw sea cucumber at a sushi joint was a unique experience.

In Korea:

raw liver
live minnows
live shrimp
silkworm larvae -- everybody's favorite

Ahhh, it all seems normal now.

Just bundaegi and boshintang. Liked neither. Oh, and Dak Bal. Didn't like that either.
I have seen soup with the congealed blood in it. Bleah.

Beondaegi (aka silkworm pupae) rocks. Can't get enough of the stuff.

How could you eat liver? The liver is a filter. Jeez. Might as well chew on a Brita water filter for dessert while you're at it.

It's about the foulest smelling substance around. I ate some while on a bender a few years ago and it came right back up. My wife loves them.

Wife: Ooooooooooo Beondaegi!
Me: Bugs....gross.
Wife: They aren't bugs!
Me: They aren't?
Wife: They're food.
Me: Is a caterpillar a bug?
Wife: Yes!
Me: Is a moth or butterfly a bug?
Wife: Yes!
Me: So what is in between a caterpiller and a moth?
Wife: Food!
Me: Ahhhhhhhhhhhrgh! Fine. But if you eat that stuff keep your lips away from mine 'till you've brushed your teeth.
Wife: (Pouts) But they aren't bugs!
Me: I give up!

Sashimi with gold flake.

Like when you accidentally chew some tinfoil... BZZZZZTKERCHANG.

Oh, and at seafood BBQ, a giant, huge shellfish- kind of like a clam, cooked in the shell. Then open it, and whammy, a piece of meat the size of an almond...

The congealed blood they have in China too! If you want to eat snake, try it on a trip to Taiwan, supposed to taste like chicken. You can also get a drink with some strong alcohol and some black stuff (from the gall bladder I think?), supposed to be good for stamina Smile

We eat blood sausages in Europe by the way... liked them as a kid, before I knew what was in them... when I found out what was in it, not so fond of it anymore for a while... but the taste is pretty good... mmm, will have some when I go home next time!

I think Korean food is not that bad compared to some Chinese stuff... ever had chicken feet? Or fish sperm in Japan, yew! Also saw whale meat for sale in the supermarket in Japan, looks really disgusting. Dolphin meat is supposed to be very tasty according to my Taiwanese friend Confused

In my country we eat rabbits and (raw & cooked) horsemeat.

Sea urchin.

Sliced in half horizontally, youve got like 2 small bowls walking around on the plate on their waving spines. Inside there are 2 colors of watery goo -- dont eat the wrong one, its poison! (sorry, I forget which is which). The 'edible' portion constitutes about 2 tiny spoonfuls that taste of nothing but seawater.

Useless wasting of a living thing, I'd say.

Of course. It's a potential drinking dish here. It actually doesn't taste bad at all, but it's not fun to chew on.

As long as it's dead and cooked, I'm up for some snake. I do prefer for it to be in meaty chunks, as opposed to whole, however...

Chicken feet: so little meat it wasn't worth the effort
Grilled pig intestine: When it was raw at the meat buffet it looked like chicken breast, boy was I wrong.
Bundaegi: tastes just as bad as it smells
Organ stir-fry (kop-chang): a medley of stomach, heart, intestine, liver, and other cow innards. Ordered completely by accident, tasted better than it looked
Live octopus: tasted better than it looked
Quail eggs: tasty!
Pork blood sausage with a side of steamed pork lung(sun-dae): not too bad, but I didn't know what it was at the time
MOOSE!: a friend from Newfoundland's uncle shipped some moose meat stew over. Ate it for Christmas. Goddam was that some goooooood eatin!

I've heard people talking about having whale meat in Korea. I've never seen this available here, but I'd love to try it. Where can I get some?
