What's to do and see in pohang? I'm going to see it tomorrow and wondering if anyone knew of anything to see? Where's the Bar district for foreigners and directions from the bus terminal? Anything is appreciated! |

There is a cool fish market in Pohang. I forget the name of it but I had excellent sushi there. Try the oyster pajeon too - Pohang is famous for it. |

I live in Pohang and like it here. The area where many people go is Yukgeori (육거리--six-way intersection); there is a pedestrian-only street nearby with lots of shops and restaurants. There is a nice park a short distance from the downtown area called Haemajigongwon (해맞이공원) with a small "zoo" and lots of open space. It's not a large city, but there are nice places to go. The market one person mentioned is called Jukdo Shijang (죽도시장). |

I lived in PH for two years. It has it's good points, mainly it's near the seaside and lots of fresh air blows in to counteract the pollution which is very bad.
But being single in Pohang sucks. As a guy your chances of getting a decent GF are pretty nill, although it's been done. People are too conservative (meaning racist) and the seemingly good chances you will get will eventually turn out to be gals trying to get English lessons out of you. The isolation in Pohang is very bad. Not a lot of foreigners there and most of the expat mob are a cliquish bunch. No support for foreigners there. |

I went there for a weekend in the summer. POSCO blights the landscape somewhat, but it's an okay destination to check out for a night or two if you want to sit on a sandy beach etc. It's not bad as far as mid-sized Korean cities go. Although, I did find it to be somewhat more expensive than other places I've been to though, especially beer (me and my missus were charged 36,000 for two big cans of Asahi in one place.)
Apparently, the scenery to the north of Pohang along the coastal road is supposed to be really nice. If you happen to drive, then that might be worth checking out. |
