Only unbridled greed could explain why the media would allow such moral decay to masquerade as political commentary.
I suppose you think this is funny.
It's no joke:

But the clearest expression of Gingrich's philosophy of media came in a GOPAC memo entitled "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control." Distributed to GOP candidates across the country, the memo's list of words for Democrats and words for Republicans was endorsed by Gingrich in a cover letter: "The words in that paper are tested language from a recent series of focus groups where we actually tested ideas and language." Next time you hear Gingrich complain about media focusing on the negative, refer back to these lists. |

I have had many concerns about McCain. I thought his connection with the Keating 5 years ago tended to show his lack of integrity and potential for corruption. The following article written by the Rolling Stones expresses many of the things that make me believe that he is not the kind of man I would like to see running our country. This article was first mentioned by Blaseblasphemer on another post. It articulates the facts to support the contention that McCain is a shallow, egotistical, self centered man who's own interests are put before family and country.

I too have read the Rolling Stones article.
McCain is the kinda guy who would sell you to the VietCong if it would enhance his chances to make Admiral or President.
John McCain's nastiest moments
In the meantime, by playing the Ayers card, McCain is now in danger of having his own questionable associations flushed out.
Like these guys;

Why McCain's Time With Council Of World Freedom Matters
Since Sunday, Democrats have been buzzing about the re-revelation that during the 1980s, Sen. John McCain served on the board of a far-right conservative organization that had supplied arms and funds to paramilitary organizations in Latin America.
Democratic strategist Paul Begala lit the fire when, during an appearance on Meet the Press, he warned that this relatively obscure detail from McCain's past could draw him into a guilt-by-association game he was bound to regret.
"John McCain sat on the board of...the U.S. Council for World Freedom," said Begala, "The Anti-Defamation League, in 1981 when McCain was on the board, said this about this organization. It was affiliated with the World Anti-Communist League - the parent organization - which ADL said 'has increasingly become a gathering place, a forum, a point of contact for extremists, racists and anti-Semites.'"
But McCain's involvement in the U.S. Council for World Freedom, which extended from 1981 through, possibly, 1986 is significant -- not merely because it ties him to unsavory characters but because it firmly associates him with a foreign policy that was, at the time and still, controversial.
"I didn't know that [McCain had] served on the board," said Shannon O'Neil
Douglas Dillon Fellow for Latin American Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. "It is a little bit surprising to me. But all of those organizations did come from the Republican side mostly. Often the people were tied to the military and they saw the world in black and white terms... My impression is [McCain] still sees the world in back and white."
The USCWF was founded in Phoenix, Arizona in November 1981 as an offshoot of the World Anti-Communist League. The group was, from the onset, saddled with the disreputable reputation of its parent group. The WACL had ties to ultra-right figures and Latin American death squads. Roger Pearson, the chairman of the WACL, was expelled from the group in 1980 under allegations that he was a member of a neo-Nazi organization.
The U.S. Council of World Freedom claimed to be cleansed of these elements. The group's director, retired Major General John Singlaub, said he had purged some of the more "kooky" members, including a Mexican chapter that "blamed everything on the Jews," and "even accused Pope John Paul of being a Jew." The Anti-Defamation League, once critical, applauded Singlaub for his efforts. Moreover, the USCWF was granted a sense of political legitimacy when President Ronald Reagan addressed the group in September 1984.
But the group's secret activities were still controversial. It claimed to support "pro-Democratic resistance movements fighting communist totalitarianism." And during the 1980s it became a vehicle for the Reagan administration to prop up some of the more totalitarian, anti-communist efforts in Central America.
-Story continues below |
So, for those of you upset over waves of immigrants from Latin America, you should know that John McCain is one of the reasons why those mass migrations occurred.
McCain has also voted against bills designed to protect doctors, patients, and nurses from anti-abortion group violence. He has also spoken against fighting Bin Laden (1998 interview with Mother Jones).
Maybe Sen. Shithead got brainwashed while in Hanoi, b/c he's certainly done everything he could to damage this country since he's returned.
John McCain; Terrorism first, Country Last. |

The organizations the US supported in Latin America were no worse than the organizations that were trying to overthrow the governments.

We shipped weapons, Sandinistas say
By GLENN GARVIN
Herald Staff Writer
MANAGUA -- When Ronald Reagan and Sandinista leaders slugged it out during
the 1980s over what was going on in Nicaragua, Reagan was right more often
than they liked to admit, the Sandinistas have admitted.
In a series of interviews with The Herald as the 20th anniversary of their July 19,
1979, rise to power approaches, several past and present Sandinista officials
confirmed for the first time that they shipped weapons to Marxist guerrillas in
neighboring El Salvador.
The Sandinistas also said that the Soviet Union agreed to supply them with MiG
jet fighters and even arranged for Nicaraguan pilots to be trained on the planes in
Bulgaria. But the Soviets reneged on the deal, sending the Sandinistas scurrying
to make peace with the contras, the officials said.
``The Sandinista leadership thought they could be Che Guevaras of all Latin
America, from Mexico to Antarctica,'' former Sandinista leader Moises Hassan
told The Herald. ``The domino theory wasn't so crazy.''
During their explosive battles with Congress over U.S. aid to anti-Sandinista
rebels in Nicaragua, Reagan administration officials frequently justified helping the
rebels on the grounds that the Sandinistas were shipping arms to the Salvadoran
guerrillas. |

Mystery has surrounded the precise circumstances of the three earlier incidents, and particularly an accident on March 12, 1960, while McCain was still in flight school at Corpus Christi in Texas. The McCain campaign has either ignored or failed to respond to requests by The Washington Post and other news organizations for the release of the candidate's full military records, which could shed light on the accidents and the pilot's personal involvement.
The official Navy report into the Corpus Christi accident on March 12, 1960, concludes that the AD-6 Skyraider trainer crashed because McCain failed to "maintain an airspeed above the stall speed." It attributed the accident to "the preoccupation of the pilot coupled with a power setting too low to maintain level flight." The single-engine prop plane sank to the bottom of Corpus Christi Bay. McCain was rescued by a helicopter after swimming to the surface.
The accident report excluded a series of other possible factors, including engine failure and disorientation of the pilot due to vertigo. It recorded pilot error as "the sole contributing factor" to the accident. A copy of the report was obtained by The Washington Post from the Democratic National Committee, which conducted research at the Naval Historical Center in Washington. McCain's responsibility for the accident was first reported by the Los Angeles Times here....

As a presidential candidate, McCain has cited his military service -- particularly his 5 1/2 years as a POW. But he has been less forthcoming about his mistakes in the cockpit.
The Times interviewed men who served with McCain and located once-confidential 1960s-era accident reports and formerly classified evaluations of his squadrons during the Vietnam War. This examination of his record revealed a pilot who early in his career was cocky, occasionally cavalier and prone to testing limits.
In today's military, a lapse in judgment that causes a crash can end a pilot's career. Though standards were looser and crashes more frequent in the 1960s, McCain's record stands out.
"Three mishaps are unusual," said Michael L. Barr, a former Air Force pilot with 137 combat missions in Vietnam and an internationally known aviation safety expert who teaches in USC's Aviation Safety and Security Program. "After the third accident, you would say: Is there a trend here in terms of his flying skills and his judgment?"
Jeremiah Pearson, a Navy officer who flew 400 missions over Vietnam without a mishap and later became the head of human spaceflight at NASA, said: "That's a lot. You don't want any. Maybe he was just unlucky."
Naval aviation experts say the three accidents before McCain's deployment to Vietnam probably triggered a review to determine whether he should be allowed to continue flying. The results of the review would have been confidential.
The Times asked McCain's campaign to release any military personnel records in the candidate's possession showing how the Navy handled the three incidents. The campaign said it would have no comment. |

McCain milks his experience as a light bomber pilot for every vote he can. But if he is so proud of his record, why does he refuse to release his military record, and why does his campaign refuse to comment on it? |

McCain Proven to be a Douche
In the debate, McCain portrayed Barack Obama as an excessive spender, and he punctuated his attack (twice) with this example:
"[Obama] voted for nearly a billion dollars in pork barrel earmark projects, including, by the way, $3 million for an overhead projector at a planetarium in Chicago, Illinois. My friends,(At this point I want to punch him in the face) do we need to spend that kind of money?"
Turns out, a lot of people think we do. This is no ordinary overhead projector from your 5th grade classroom. The blog Cosmic Variance sums it up:

I'm beginning to think that the behaviour of the McCain supporters is really, really hurting him and pushing a lot of undecideds over to Barry.
I doubt many people would want to be associated with the charicatures that are popping up all over the web. |

The American public has had 8 years of the cultural devisiveness game employed by Rove. There on to the fact that character assassination simply doesn't result in good leaders being chosen as president. |

Christopher Hitchens, Propagandist-in-chief for the War On Terror, endorses Obama...

I suppose it could be said, as Michael Gerson has alleged, that the Obama campaign's choice of the word erratic to describe McCain is also an insinuation. But really, it's only a euphemism. Anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear had to feel sorry for the old lion on his last outing and wish that he could be taken somewhere soothing and restful before the night was out. The train-wreck sentences, the whistlings in the pipes, the alarming and bewildered handhold phrases"My friends"to get him through the next 10 seconds. I haven't felt such pity for anyone since the late Adm. James Stockdale humiliated himself as Ross Perot's running mate. And I am sorry to have to say it, but Stockdale had also distinguished himself in America's most disastrous and shameful war, and it didn't qualify him then and it doesn't qualify McCain now.
The most insulting thing that a politician can do is to compel you to ask yourself: "What does he take me for?" Precisely this question is provoked by the selection of Gov. Sarah Palin. I wrote not long ago that it was not right to condescend to her just because of her provincial roots or her piety, let alone her slight flirtatiousness, but really her conduct since then has been a national disgrace. It turns out that none of her early claims to political courage was founded in fact, and it further turns out that some of the untested rumors about herher vindictiveness in local quarrels, her bizarre religious and political affiliationswere very well-founded, indeed. Moreover, given the nasty and lowly task of stirring up the whack-job fringe of the party's right wing and of recycling patent falsehoods about Obama's position on Afghanistan, she has drawn upon the only talent that she apparently possesses.

Obama is greatly overrated in my opinion, but the Obama-Biden ticket is not a capitulationist one, even if it does accept the support of the surrender faction, and it does show some signs of being able and willing to profit from experience. With McCain, the "experience" is subject to sharply diminishing returns, as is the rest of him, and with Palin the very word itself is a sick joke. One only wishes that the election could be over now and a proper and dignified verdict rendered, so as to spare democracy and civility the degradation to which they look like being subjected in the remaining days of a low, dishonest campaign.
