Complicated Situation - Any advice?

Hey guys.

My visa's up on 10 November. My contract's up at the end of November. My nice hagwon boss has agreed to let me work on till the end of February next year when I can hopefully start a new uni job, if I can get one.

What kind of contract should he offer me?
Is a three month contract even legal?
Should we bother with a contract at all?
Won't he have to present immigration with some kind of contract to get my visa renewed as my sponsor?

CRC is on the way and the UK embassy in Seoul tell me they can notarize it...
Medical check will be done on Monday.

When I start the new job in March, will I have to provide a new CRC/do another medical check? Or even have to do a visa run as my new visa will be issued with the old hagwon as sponsor?[/size][/size]

I don't see why a three month contract wouldn't be legal, just that few bosses would ever want to agree to one.

You should be able to extend your current permit by three months, but would most likely need to do a visa run to get your next visa.

And yes, do bother with your three month contract, otherwise you'd have nothing to complain about!

Nothing complicated there.

IF you don't extend with your boss make sure that you LEAVE Korea BEFORE your ARC expires OR get a free extension (based on your air ticket). This can be for up to 30 days).

IF you want to extend with your current employer you CAN extend for anywhere from 1-365 days.

If you wish to renew your contract at your current school, you will need the following documents ;

1. Visa Extension Application
2. Passport and your Alien Registration Card
3. New contract
4. Sponsorship Certificate (from school)
5. A copy of Certificate of School / Business Registration (from school)
6. Processing Fee
7. New Criminal Record Certificate (if you haven't submitted one to immigration already).
7. New Health Check Certificate (if you haven't submitted one to immigration already).

IF you change employers you MAY have to get all new documents.

IF you stay with the same employer you need the list above.

Most bosses wouldn't do a NEW contract from abroad for short terms (because the visa and sponsorship are for 1 year)
but
lots of bosses do short 3-6 month extensions. It's in their best interest to do so. They save an air ticket and severance benefits (since they aren't payable on extensions of less than 1 year).

Given what just happened to the won and the number of folks now deciding to leave / not come at all, smart bosses would do what they could to hold on to any good teacher they can to put off finding a new one until the won (hopefully) recovers somewhat.

A short term extension of your contract is easy and it is really in the employer's best interest. They get an employee for three extra months and it saves them three months in severance pay. My employer has done short term extensions for me to allow me to take a couple vacations. Worked out well for both of us. Actually not a complicated situation at all.
