Do I need a visa/alien card to open a bank account?? Meaning if my visa ends in a few weeks, does my bank account end with it and can I not open a new bank account unless I get a new visa?

Also, just how bad is the WON issue? I was going to wait another two weeks (after payday) to transfer my money home... is it really so bad that I'm losing money every day? Should I just transfer it now?
