I'm leaving soon, but returning on a C4 visa to do an English camp in mid-December. I keep hearing different things about this can I get it apostilized (or whatever you call it) at the US Embassy in Seoul or do I have to go back to America? Where can I get it done in America- some sort of government building? Does it have to be done in the state at which I claim residency?
Also, anyone know if I need an alien registration card to open a bank account? And will my current bank account automatically close when my current visa runs out? Anyone definitively know of a bank that will give you an international ATM card?? Are there HSBC banks in Seoul? |

I don't know this from experience, but if a Korean notary will notarize it for you, you shouldn't need an apostille. The purpose of an apostille is to show a foreign person that the notary who did your notarization is, in fact, a real notary. You know, so that people don't have to figure out the notary systems of a bunch of different countries to spot fakes.
This could be 100% wrong, just speaking logically.
To get my apostille in PA, I had to go to a building at the state capitol after getting it notarized. It took about five minutes. I'm pretty sure that you can get it done in any state. It's only to show that the government recognizes your notary. |

You cannot get an apostille in Korea but you can go to the US embassy and sign an affidavit which will work.
From what I know a Korean notary is unable to notarize foreign documents since they cannot validate them. |
